O tiê-preto é uma ave passeriforme da família Thraupidae.
Conhecido também como cháu, gurundi, chepe, foguinho preto (São Paulo) e azulão.
Nome Científico
Seu nome científico significa: do (grego) takhuphönos = aquele que fala rápido; e do (latim) corona,
coronatus = coroa, coroado.
Características
Para a identificação, é útil prestar atenção no branco debaixo das asas do macho;
a cristinha vermelha quase nunca é visível.
O macho é preto-brilhante com uma estreita faixa vermelha no alto da cabeça;
a fêmea é toda marrom. Mede cerca de 18 centímetros.
Hábitos
O tiê-preto pode ser visto isolado, em pares, grupos de 3 ou 4 indivíduos ou mesmo em bandos maiores.
O macho, quando excitado,
exibe a mancha vermelha da cabeça (píleo) e movimenta as asas mostrando o branco
das coberteiras inferiores das asas. Espécie de hábitos florestais,
o tiê-preto é visto com mais freqüência ao visitar árvores frutíferas nas bordas ou nos
arredores de matas e capoeirões. Vive em casais.
É uma ave agitada, que freqüenta a folhagem de arbustos e de árvores,
movimentando-se ativamente em busca de alimento.
Distribuição Geográfica
Presente do Espírito Santo ao Rio Grande do Sul,
estendendo-se para oeste até o Mato Grosso do Sul.
Encontrado também no Paraguai e Argentina.

The Ruby-crowned Tanager is a passerine bird in the Thraupidae family.

Its scientific name means: the (Greek) = takhuphönos one who speaks fast; and (Latin) corona,
coronatus = crown, crowned.
Characteristics

The male is black with a narrow bright red band at the top of the head;
the female is all brown. It is approximately 18 centimeters.
habits
