현대 사회는 빠르게 변하고 있으며 공간적 제약도 넘어서고 있습니다. 사회의 변화에 따라 청소년에게 진로에 대한 비전을 제시하고 적응시키는 활동이 더 중요하게 되었습니다.


유엔 미래 보고서가 “미래의 근로자는 실업에 대해 걱정하기보다는 스스로 역량을 개발하는 데 초점을 맞추고 지속적으로 일할 수 있도록 창의적인 사고로 일거리를 만들어야 한다.“고 주장하는 것도 진로활동의 패러다임이 변해야 함을 나타내는 것이다.


이러한 변화에 대응하여 우리 청소년들이 미래 사회에서 직업인으로서 보람을 갖고 훌륭한 시민으로 살아가게 하기 위하여 국가 수준의 정책과 지원이 이루어지고 있다. 학교에서도 진로활동과 체험활동을 강화하고 있으며, 적성에 맞는 진학이 이루어지도록 힘을 기울이고 있다. 이를 위하여 진로와 진학 지도를 전문적으로 지원하는 진로진학 전담 인력도 학교에 배치하였다.

한국진로진학정보원은 현실의 한계를 극복하고 동아시아 진로, 진학 연수의 페이스 세터 역할을 맡고자 하는 진로・진학 관계자들의 자발적 모임으로서, 진로, 진학 연수를 담당하는 각 개인 또는 기구가 갖고 있는 정보의 우수성과 독자성을 연결하여 포괄적인 진로・진학 정보와 연수가 적시적소에 도달할 수 있도록 지원하는 역할을 담당하는 조직으로 자리매김하려 한다.


민간 기구는 공적 영역에서 소외된 아동 및 청소년을 대상으로 지역사회에서 진로연수 영향이 미치게 하는 역할을 쉽게 담당할 수 있으며, 공적 영역의 정책을 현장에 쉽게 착근하게 도와 정책 효율을 높이는 데도 도움을 줄 수 있다. 나아가 해외 네트워크를 형성하여 진로 관련 활동을 선진화하고 국제적인 주도성을 획득하는 데 앞장서게 된다.

이러한 점을 보완할 수 있는 민간의 역할이 필요한 이유가 여기에 있다. 자유학기제를 추진할 때 전문가 수준의 직업을 경험한 이들이 자발적으로 학교에서의 진로 체험을 도와준다면 학교에서의 진로 교육이 적은 비용으로도 효율적으로 이루어질 수 있게 된다는 점 등이 그 예이다.



민간 기구는 자발성을 기초로 한다. 민간 기구에 참여하는 구성원은 자신이 가진 정보를 자발적으로 제공하므로 최신의 정보가 쉽게 구성될 수 있다. 또한 정보가 모여 비교되므로 다양하면서도 표준화된 정보를 제공할 수 있다. 각 정보는 회원의 저작권 기부에 의하여 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 온라인 및 출판물을 통하여 제공된다. 자발적으로 모인 전문가 그룹은 학교에서 이루어 지는 진로활동을 돕는 데도 큰 역할을 할 수 있을 것이다.

이같은 역할을 통하여 한국진로진학정보원은 민간 기구의 장점을 살려 한국의 진로진학활동을 더 활성화시켜 우리 청소년이 미래로 세계로 뻗어가는 꿈을 현실화하는 데 도움을 주게 될 것이며 진로, 진학 정보를 필요로 하는 모든 곳에 등불의 역할을 하게 될 것이다.
