Weather Elite by WeatherBug

What have they done to the Weather Bug we paid for? My street names are gone on the radar screen. No matter which "layer" you choose, there are no landmarks or street names my my Moto Droid Z. What was wrong with it? It was great. I want my money back. They great reviews you are seeing before they auto removed the original app and updated it to this new app. Beware.

Review revision: live wallpaper has disappeared? Cf. Below (from the last time it disappeared and then returned) for why this feature is so important to me. 2013 review; live wallpaper returns! I use that feature as my exclusive wallpaper, and it was the primary reason I purchased the elite version in the first place. When you ride as much as I do (200-300km/week), it really is invaluable. Rest of the revised app is decent--goes kind of the Accuweather route. I am glad though that WeatherBug has kept the descriptive text forecasts--some times a word, rather than a picture, is worth a thousand words.

Below is my former 5-star review. Now, with new update, it's a 1. What happened to four day forecast widget? Not much point in even using any of the new widgets. The new screen layout is also dark, busy, and I have to scroll no to get all the information I'm looking for. Terrible new interface. Updates should be improvements, not subtractions. When I switched from BlackBerry to Android this was one of the apps I didn't want to lose. It works even better on my Samsung than it did on my BlackBerry and they keep improving it. I paid for the pro version, definitely an app that is worth the money. I live in the mountains, the weather advisories are potentially a life saver.

Getting another app ager I have been a day one user for this app after the change the widget 4 day no longer exsist and doesn't change by location anymore. Going to Accuweather app.

What was once a really nice app has been completely ruined by the latest update. If I had wanted a "new" look and an "updated" interface I would have purchased a different app. This one now looks like it was designed by a 1st grade teacher to decorate her classroom and shock her ADHD students into paying attention. What were you thinking?!?

What the heck happened? Had this app for years and loved it. Now it's a complete mess! A disorganized graphic-design nightmare. Whoever designed and approved this update should be fired. Seriously--it's absolutely awful. If I can't restore the previous version I'm uninstalling it and will find another weather app. Epic fail!

I thought this app had been abandoned, but suddenly it is back with a huge UI update. Happy to see it, since I paid for the app in the first place. BUT, what happened to the widgets? Missing the 4 day forecast widget. Putting the same efforts into expanding the widget options would earn the app another star!

Taking away elite features like the 4 day widget is a slap in face for users that have paid and supported this app. The 3-1 widget is useless. The 2-1 widget has better information. The hourly details lack the information from before. Maybe these are just short sited growing pains. The pull down, part of the the status bar features is hideous. No customization. One positive about the update is 10 day forcast.

It appears that with this latest update, there is no longer a way to get the Live Wallpaper with the Doppler radar! This was one of Weatherbugs best features! This is not good. I rated this app in 2013 and today I am lowing my rating due to this MAJOR change. When they bring this back, I will consider a new rating at that time.

Thanks for updating the application. I still like the old layout at least when you push the back button on the radar map it would go back to the main screen now it just closes the application. Going from a 7 day forecast to a 10 day is nice. Certain screens I can see a ad pop up and then disappear.

I really loved this app until the latest update!! What were you guys thinking? I wish I could reverse it to the previous version. The graphs and general information structure are now cartoonish and chaotic respectively. Very annoying. Too bad.

Yes I am glad it was updated as it should of been however........ You removed some good widgets, there should be more to a premium version of an app besides ads being removed extra widgets is a simple and needed addition. The 5 day forcast and radar widget are both things that should be added

Suddenly brought back from abandonment, it is nice to see the UI update, but the​ great, highly legible and efficient widgets are gone. Even when it was not fully compatible with Android N, I kept using it (putting up with refresh issues) because it had the best 4x1 widget of any weather app on Android. Now it has these stark, minimally useful widgets similar to what has been available as a separate Play download, with only the current day's information. Please consider bringing back the old 4x1 widget.

There's a big empty space on my home screen where the 4x1 widget used to live. You just walked away from prime real estate where you were top of mind every time I looked at my phone. Now you're buried in a list of apps I might check once in a while. I've read the other reviews, bet you didn't know you could anger so many people so quickly.

You tricked us - BIGTIME. You told us not to worry about upgrading - same "ad free experience". What you failed to tell us is you have removed our favorite widgets, removed the Live Wallpaper. This app is now nearly identical to your non-elite version - munus all the take aways. You know, some if us have been waiting years for you to upgrade this paid app - and after abandoning us for years - this is what you've come up with. NO THANKS - reverting back to the 2013 version. BOHICA. Thanks for absolutely nothing.

Revised review based on latest update: what happened to the 4x1 widget with multi-day weather forecast? I was hoping to see a 5x1 widget so that it would fit the screen of my S7 edge. Fewer & smaller widget options are disappointing.

This update is nice. I wasn't expecting the widgets to change but it seems to be a bigger deal for others users (wow they sure are on a rant). Performance is good, the details are all still there, I like the 10-day forecast (instead of only 7) and the radar is the best of any weather app out there. The only thing I find annoying is how customizing the map inside the precipitation box doesn't stick. I like it to show radar instead.

This is how you ruin a perfectly good app. I've had the 4x1 widget on my primary desktop for years. With the latest update they got rid of it. Time to look for an app that fits. Also their weather maps have been having large blank sections unless you zoom in or out to see whatever view they have. Half the time I can't see the southeastern US. Didn't have any problems with this app for years. Now it's garbage.

I have installed and removed atleast ten weather apps, but keep returning to this one. Part of the problem being that it takes a while to learn the tricks and limitations of any one app. Weather Bug appears to get much of their data from stations located at elementary schools. Perhaps this is tie in foe "bug" in their name. At any rate, this provides an amazing number of sources. I've gotten good weather app information and predictions in some pretty out of the way places.

I'm surprised people like the new user interface. To me it's way too cluttered. Ironically everyone seems upset about missing widgets instead, but I never used them anyway (I'd be upset too if I had been used to them). Back button should take you to the home screen, then from there it should exit the app. I get that the hourly forecasts are just that, but by only showing the hour like 20, instead of 20:00, it's not at all clear what it is. It's a jumbled mess to me. Seems like it used to be easier to read and get information at a glance. Appreciate that it's finally getting some attention though.

I generally like the recent update -- the UI overhaul is long overdue. But I do miss the old widget with three-day forecast. Am I just missing it somehow? Any plans to bring it back? It's disappointing when updates remove useful function. Yahoo! Weather is looking better and better.

I liked seeing several days of weather in the widget. Now my choices are one day in the widget, load the app entirely too see future weather, or install another widget that connects to a different version of Weather Bug. These options are all pretty poor. Will the old widgets be brought back? Or something similar?

Great app best options but live wallpaper doesn't update correctly. I went on a road trip and now my location is stuck to Forney TX. I live in Dallas. Update: Since the update the developer removed the live radar wallpaper. That was the only reason I paid for the app originally and now they removed it.

This update really ruined the app. The new widgets are awful compared to the old ones. Why did you remove the great 4x1 widget?! Also I'm not really liking the new color scheme.

Very disappointed they no longer include the radar wallpaper and a forecast widget. This was why I paid for Weatherbug and left a 5 star review in 2012. I've amended the review to 3 stars because it's just an average weather app now.

It was a good app. The 6/2/2017 update ruined the app. I, too, purchaed the Elite version a number of years ago. You took away 4 day widget. Please put it back! Also annoying to see are to see moving to a subscription based app. So we can buy the app & then pay again & again? Sucks!

This app worked great until this new update. Radar doesn't work! It won't show the map, or anything else, just blank. The new layout is terrible. Please fix the radar, useless to me without it.

You take away the 3 day weather outlook and radar widgets and call this an "update"? I don't want to see peoples stupid weather pictures, I want the 3 day outlook and up to date radar in a widget. Thanks for making the app SUCK now. I have already started looking for a new weather app to replace of this shiny piece of garbage. GOODBYE WEATHER BUG. HELLO ACCUWEATHER.

I thought weatherbug app developers were dead! I feel like there has been no updates for 2 years! To my surprise we got a much welcomed update. Funny the previous's version radar broke just before this new update.

Very disgusted. For years app was good. Figured updating would be better. Now privacy issues, forced information telemetry. Now app doesn't work. May have to sign in for certain things. New UI completely understand intuitive. Can't believe the common customer has to go through these issues with apps in general. I don't want what used to be the best weather app spying on me and working poorly.

The latest version does not have the four day widget or the live wallpaper. Those were my favorite features, and now they are gone. Please bring them back!!!

Okay, I get it, change happens. The app itself is okay. For me, the WeatherBug forecasts are more spot-on than most and that is why I only dropped my previous 5-star rating down to 3 stars. The biggest letdown, as with a lot of long-time users is the lack of widget variety. My goto widget was the 4-day forecast. Now there is only a selection of 3 current condition widgets. The selection really does need to be expanded.

It would be better if they concentrated on actual weather data instead of gimmicks like Spark, UV, Lifestyles, weather news, pollen, outlook, etc. The UI is now harder to read and virtually non-configurable. It's being dumbed-down instead of becoming more powerful.

Widget appears not able to show multiple locations. When creating a widget there is no location option. Also the 5 day widget takes up twice the screen space than the old version.

EDIT: 4 JUNE 17, See below...What has happened?? It's a SAD day, when the people who paid for the Elite version, get left out in the cold, as far as updates go...WE helped pay your way to work on this app, and you just forget us?? I don't want the Free version, with all the ads, and I sure as heck, don't feel like I should have to shell out more $$, to get an ad free experience, again...EDIT: 4 JUNE 17 Well we originals, finally get remembered...however, I really liked being able to pick my own background, with the original Elite...I work graveyard shift, and appreciate having a dark background...why couldn't you have just updated original Elite, to having a 10 day forcast? And left the rest of it alone?! Please add the ability to change backgrounds, at least... 4 day widget would be nice again... If that can happen, I might feel like rating 5 stars again.

Ruined. I've had this app for several years and have always loved it. With this new look, I couldn't be more disappointed. No 4 day widget? Lame. And when I open the app it is so cluttered and unorganized. I've given it week and played around with the "customizable" options and it's just not working. I liked being able to see all I needed on one screen. Poorly played, WeatherBug. Poorly played.

Liked the old app, this 'update' is by far the worst I've ever seen. Features, like useful widgets, gone and the main app replaced by something so ugly and user unfriendly I couldn't uninstall it fast enough. Avoid like the plague it is.

Update (6/2/17): not a fan of new app. Widget that I've used for years is gone and so is live radar wallpaper. New app version is very busy and updates a lot of things i have no interest in, without ability to turn them off. I've been a Weatherbug user for years and it's always been a reliable quality app. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is because the radar map stopped remembering my zoom level a few versions back. Update: they fixed the zoom issue. 5 stars.

Not bad! A little quirky and I'm not always comfortable with the accuracy, but close enough. I still use it all the time (with an occasional double check on local weather) . But hey! "Only fools and weathermen try to predict weather in Texas!"... So it's all good. *EDIT* New update. My location is identified as a town 30 miles away. There is a town 10 miles away that is a lot more accurate for me, but I can't delete the town 30 miles away. Makes it pretty useless when the weather in Texas is fast and furious when actual weather comes through. There is no info on how to permanently change this, nor is there any info I can find offering a way to have a question answered. That = NO customer service!

Update: I used to love this app, especially the widget. Update changed everything. No where near as nice as it was. Now I have to search for a new weather app and widget to replace the one that I paid for. They should have at least kept the original widget. This is a great app. I love the recent ui update. I have been using this app for years. I especially love the widget and the radar. Worth the upgrade to elite, you should definitely support this developer!
