Coffee - SMS on Android Wear for Android
Coffee is the first messenger app built ground up for Android Wear.
This is a fantastic app and I will recommend it to anyone I know who has a smart watch. However I think there is some room for improvement. 1: Some sort of notification when you receive an mms message. I'm so disappointed that my watch doesn't at least buzz to notify me that someone sent me a picture like the stock messaging service does. It doesn't need to show the picture, I just want some kind of notification 2: Use Google's voice to text. It irks me so much that the text to speech in the app doesn't auto-capitalize sentences like the stock voice-to-text messaging software. It's gotten to the point that I just don't use to VTT in app. 3: Add the ability to check text history of your favorite contacts. Small thing but it would be much more convenient to check text history on the watch before I sent a message than having to wait for the person to send me a message before I can see it.
A solid app, at least by Android Wear standards. It can be a little slow to respond at times. Also, it's a minor quibble, but they need to capitalize letters properly in their voice-to-text feature. It may be a Google Now limitation, but words at the beginning of a sentence or after a period are never capitalized.
Holy crap, this is one of the most useful apps for Android Wear! Haven't had a great SMS experience in general on Wear. Textra is awesome on the phone and gives you some support in Wear, but nowhere near the flexibility as Coffee. Home run, folks!
This app COULD be awesome, but it needs some fixes. It's pretty upsetting the devs haven't updated this app since 2015! It HAS to have group and MMS support, thats a must in this day and age. If they could fix that, it would be 5 star. In addition, perhaps charge $1 or $2 and devote some time to making this app #1!!!! I really hope you can improve on this soon.
It takes a very long time for peaple to receive messages. Some times up to 20min at first I thought it was my carrier but then I try to Hangouts and it sent in seconds. I would love if you could fix it so i can give 5 stars
I found a bug which prevented any of the app permissions in system settings from being changed (eg: mic or locations on/off for particular app), resulting a "screen overlay" message to pop up. Turns out it was a shortcut I enabled to enter Coffee from the watch face and if I disable the shortcut, I can change my permission settings again.Would also be nice if could assign more properties (eg colour)to contacts rather than identifying by initials as can be confusing, if no photo on contacts. Overall, it's a clean, useful app.
Really useful app and the quick reply system is genius, but the issues with notifications are really frustrating. For me, the most annoying issue is if you see or dismiss an SMS notification on your phone, the notification persists on your watch in coffee. Really annoying
Zenwatch 2. Used to be able to read & respond to texts on my watch. Now it only vibrates. Can't see the message at all. What happened??
This app is great, but sometimes my watch will be charging and it will get a message, but my phone won't... My watch displays the message I revived and it doesn't show up in the conversation on my phone. Very frustrating.
This app is great, it does everything it's supposed to do and even astonished me with the quick reply system and everything. Makes the android wear devices truly capable of sms messaging. What's missing? Privacy. A toggle to show or not to show a preview of the sms (as in show contents or just "new sms from X"). And the ability to open the app and access all sms threads. Or at least the favorites. Keep up the great work!!
I was having problems with not being able to reply to messages on my capital LG Urbane watch and I installed this app and now it does everything I want it to do. It's great.
This just leaves the stock sms app in the dust. Super easy to use, works super fast, no lag and no issues so far on my Moto 360 gen2. Highly recommend.
Drains the battery. I'd like to keep using this app, but by 7pm my battery was at 12%! Normally at this time my battery is at about 40%. Too bad cause I kinda like this app.
Coffee is probably the Wear app I use the most. I added the FlickKey app to my watch also and Coffee integrates it well (another reviewer was complaining about the lack of keyboard - try FlickKey). UPDATE: As previously reported by another user, there are indeed no notifications for MMS messages (note that the native Android message notifications do include MMS notifications, but if you turn them back on, you'll get duplicate notifications for SMS messages -- removing a star).
Decidedly what I wanted out of SMS on Android wear. The only thing that's either lacking or too hard for me to figure out is me creating my own redtext messages, so one star withheld for that.
... For the spam messages that seem to be sent directly to the app but don't appear on my phone. Is this letting in spam from numbers blocked on the phone?
I used to really like this app and gave it a five star rating but I've noticed issues cropping up (most notably texts disappearing before I can reply, and the watch app ignoring my chosen contacts and using the contacts I have most recently dialled) and it has now reached the point where I barely use it because it doesn't do what I want any more.
Having tried every single wear sms app out there I have finally settled on this! I didn't originally use it as it didn't have keyboard but now it does I'm keeping it. Pls could we have support for quick as I prefer t9 on wear. Also (if it could be done) for the app to learn our words like SwiftKey does. That would be the ultimate wear app then! Brilliant wear app, great job Dev!
I love the app but the companion app on my android phone which is an AT&T LG g4 doesn't work at all please fix it so I can get my custom responses and my favourites added
A lot of Wear apps are fun to play with, but few stand the test of time as often the extra functionality available by pulling out your phone is worth the trouble. However, properly configured with your own messages, Coffee allows you to easily send quite sophisticated SMSs from your watch without bringing out your phone. Certainly worth trying the free version... and, in my case, I liked it enough to upgrade.
Works well. Just a minor bug that sends a message to your watch twice, so the history log shows two of the same message. Doesn't break the usage, but it is hella annoying.
I've tried a BUNCH of messaging apps, and this one by far has the experience RIGHT, and EASY. But really can you PLEASE add other platforms to this app besides SMS? FB Messenger? Hangouts? WhatsApp, etc.? And allow me to INITIATE conversations, not just reply for a limited time like all those other apps!
It is a great texting App. Don't need to talk to your watch, or deal with a tiny keyboard, just select the right response. I would like some updates though I can't think of what it needs. Don't turn on the stuff that they say might drain the battery, cause it will.
Amazing app, adds so much functionality to my gear 2 neo flashed with android wear, only problem is when I add too many sub-messages it deletes the entire message list
Great app, better than the default one on Android Wear. You can customize the replies and everything. However, there is one major flaw: Notifications don't show up on your watch if it is MMS or group messages (which typically are sent as MMS). I do a lot of group messaging, so this is a major disappointment. I will be uninstalling for now until this is fixed or added.
I really enjoy this app, use it more than any other messaging app on my smartwatch... BUT... The quick reply categories... They don't always ALL show up. Sometimes it's just one, or two categories, sometimes all of them. There is no rhyme or reason to it. Also, there's NO notification of an mms. AND if you would be compatible with the TouchOne keyboard... Total absolute, hands down, win.
It's so convenient and easy to customize. Many thanks! (Unfortunately, I have had multiple bugs when setting up custom messages. Now I can't add/change anything except replies) please fix… would have no problem paying for premium. Is there a way to backup user created messages? Still love it, but frustrated at the moment.
One of the best apps for Android Wear. Unfortunately, I've experienced many times that when I check the messaging app on the phone, the message was not sent as indicated by coffee on the watch... which means if the message is important I must now check the phone to confirm... still the case with latest version.
Love the concept and much of the design. However, I've had two instances where Coffee has shown a notification for a sms while it has just not shown up in Textra at all, in effect coffee has swallowed the sms - it seems. Not so nice, especially if you're not wearing the watch when this happens. Hope you get the bugs ironed out, I really appreciate this app. How about you join forces with Textra and make it one fab package? :)
This app works really well and gets better as you use it and it gets to know you.... I have one problem though. It does not alert you when you receive an MMS on your phone. If you turned off your messaging apps notifications then you won't see that you have a message. At least say "Picture" or something! It says it can do keyboard now but I can't find it in the app and I would really appreciate support for Minuum. It has a track record unlike whatever key!
First off let me just start by saying that I love this app on my watch. The quick reply system is brilliant and 100000 times faster and better than the default reply options in Hangouts. However, the execution of this app needs to sorely be improved. For example, as others have mentioned any sent messages from Coffee don't show up in SMS history. Secondly, this thing has a battery leak meaning it saps the battery even though I might not be using it a particular day. I'm running Coffee on the OG Moto 360.
This is a good app, but there are two problems that I've emailed for support with, more than once, but not received a response: 1. Dismissing the notification on my watch doesn't clear the outstanding notification from my phone. 2. The SMS history card on my watch stopped working at a fairly early stage. Please fix this.
I have an HTC One M7 and Moto 360 (original) and can't see picture messages or group messages via Coffee on my watch... Any chance there's a patch coming?
Goes with me to every android wear device. Now it's on my Huwei watch. Wished messages were centered...
The app shows notifications for texts from numbers I have added to spam numbers. For that reason I will have to disable or Uninstall the app until that's fixed.
Now this is how messaging on android wear should be. A great replacement for the rubbish that comes on your watch.
-Custom messages keeps reseting to default. -Answering on the watch doesnt clears the notification on the phone. -Crashes while writting custom replies. Fix these and you'll have a 5stars app
Great app but doesn't work on my new huawei watch, please fix
I have a bug where it doesn't show the conversation history for one of my friends. Everyone else works, but on his messages when I scroll over the card, it just shows a blank page where it should show the conversation history. I've sent emails about this but it hasn't been fixed. I can't live without this app so I hope it gets fixed!

Fantastic. Much less embarrasing than shouting into your watch, although it's a little strange how so few variations of the messages you actually need!
