This FREE all-inclusive outdoor guide was created in a collaborative effort between Virginia Department of Conservation & Recreation and ParksByNature Network®, and the next generation of the app is better than ever.
Powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, the app gives outdoor enthusiasts an environmentally friendly way to enjoy the parks. It contains everything you need to plan a trip to the state parks, navigate them once you get there, and share your experiences afterward.
Newly added features:
•New user interface (UI) with a sleek, more photo-centric home screen design.
•Photo galleries on each park description page.
•A new Explore feature to optimize search capabilities, allowing a 4-in-1 search by location, activities, category, and site name, making it easier to find the perfect recreational destination.
The app still has rich GPS features, such as:
•Advanced GPS Maps, complete with an accuracy and distance indicator, which allow you to access trail data, record tracks from hikes, runs, or bike rides, and view elapsed time and distance traveled.
•Easy-to-cache GPS Terrain Map tiles, which ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
•Photo waypoint feature allowing you to snap a photo and mark and record the coordinates of plant life, animal species or landscape views. Post or share these remarkable finds with family and friends with the click of a button.
•Friend Finder feature that tracks friends and family around the parks.

Mostly useless for reservations. App does Not allow you to page through available campsites. And when you do find a campsite you wish to reserve, the "reserve" function goes nowhere.

It seems that updates are to be a good thing. Yet every time an app updates , nothing works right afterward. This app used to work great, now it crashes every time I try to use it, and ads on apps are getting out of control.

Was out hiking Mason Neck State Park checking out the Bald Eagles. The GPS worked great and checked out the Trophy Case social network and joined allot of fun.Good Job!!

Turkey roost ad keeps appearing and will not close down. Un installed and tried re installing. That did not fix the problem.

The stupid ads that pip up from cabelas just don't stop, even after shutting it down and restarting!

Ads are annoying enough but slightly tolerable if the app is useful. This app had promise but doesn't work. A search of parks near me brings up a map with pins. Clicking on a pin should pop up a window for that park where you can click to get more info. The pop up shows for half a second then disappears and won't cone back. A search for a park by name does nothing. Useless, so I uninstalled. As an avid hiker in Virginia I wish someone would rework this app so it actually works.

The app has such great potential with all its features. The features I was most interested in were recording the trail you take and how long it took from point A to B and viewing the trails available at said state parks. However the app would shutdown every couple minutes and erase everything I had saved AND it had no trail maps for a couple state parks. All it had was a Google maps overview, sooooooooooooo I saw trees and a main road.

Great, great, great wounderful aminities, grest outdoor actvities. Bike ride was fantastic 19 miles even for a novice mostly down hill.

This app takes a lot of space and power to run and very slow in loading. Ads take most of the screen while the apps display is a bit blurry. Does not give you all the state parks and those it has, the data is not current. The app charges $5 for making reservations that you can do yourself by calling the park. No search bar so plan on jumping through pages to find what you want.

Love it! Works great with Sprint Google Nexus S phone. Was able to make my reservations the same as if I was on my laptop. Had no problems at all. Thanks for this app!

Love Va State Parks so was hoping this would be helpful to find events & activities but app is slow to respond and not sure if only 1 park has uploaded events so far but not seeing info I was looking for and then it totally crashed.
