Pocket Ranger®'s North Carolina State Parks Guide app has gotten a total makeover!
This FREE all-inclusive outdoor guide was created in a collaborative effort between the North Carolina Division of Parks & Recreation and ParksByNature Network®, and the next generation of the app is better than ever.
Powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, the app gives outdoor enthusiasts an environmentally friendly way to enjoy the parks. It contains everything you need to plan a trip to the state parks, navigate them once you get there, and share your experiences afterward.
Newly added features:
•New user interface (UI) with a sleek, more photo-centric home screen design.
•Photo galleries on each park description page.
•A new Explore feature to optimize search capabilities, allowing a 4-in-1 search by location, activities, category, and site name, making it easier to find the perfect recreational destination.
The app still has rich GPS features, such as:
•Advanced GPS Maps, complete with an accuracy and distance indicator, which allow you to access trail data, record tracks from hikes, runs, or bike rides, and view elapsed time and distance traveled.
•Easy-to-cache GPS Terrain Map tiles, which ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
•Photo waypoint feature allowing you to snap a photo and mark and record the coordinates of plant life, animal species or landscape views. Post or share these remarkable finds with family and friends with the click of a button.

I was excited about this app, but after installation I couldn't get anything but a blank screen. Not helpful at all.

It is a shame that you cannot get park information at the visitor because the expectation is that you should use this app instead. The app crashes, and doesn't allow login. Uninstall.

I couldn't close the ad from THERMACELL. To that company: by working with these app developers you are giving free advertising to your competitor by highlighting that you can avoid mosquitos by staying indoors and not taking a trip to our beautiful state parks. To the app developers: you lost an opportunity for me to pay the $3 app booking fee. Whatever intern was responsible for this implementation needs a pretty serious orientation in user experience.

I'm assuming this is a bug but when you click on Explore, you briefly see a search box and then an ad pops up. The ad has an x but that does nothing. Your choice is to follow the ad or close the app. Nice idea but the whole point would be to find an explore nearby parks. Until the Explore feature is fixed this app is useless.

I never rate apps unless they have been extremely useful and helpful. This is one of those rare apps. I use it non stop to plan any camping trip I have in NC. One of the best features is it works offline also. That can be extremely useful when hiking through the mountains of a state park where cell service is next to nothing. My trail map and information on trails was this app numerous times

Some claim problems with this app but it works well for me. It is a little slow loading some stuff but that is probably my device processor. The info is super and accurate as I've looked at parks I have been to and everything is right. Very good app, take time to learn it and you will agree.
