About GA State Parks Outdoors Guide

The Official Guide for Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites Pocket Ranger® app has gotten a total makeover!

This FREE all-inclusive outdoor guide was created in a collaborative effort between the Georgia Department of Natural Resources and ParksByNature Network®, and the next generation of the app is better than ever.

Powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, the app gives outdoor enthusiasts an environmentally friendly way to enjoy the parks. It contains everything you need to plan a trip to the state parks, navigate them once you get there, and share your experiences afterward.

Newly added features:
•New user interface (UI) with a sleek, more photo-centric home screen design.
•Photo galleries on each park description page.
•A new Explore feature to optimize search capabilities, allowing a 4-in-1 search by location, activities, category, and site name, making it easier to find the perfect recreational destination.

The app still has rich GPS features, such as:

•Advanced GPS Maps, complete with an accuracy and distance indicator, which allow you to access trail data, record tracks from hikes, runs, or bike rides, and view elapsed time and distance traveled.
•Easy-to-cache GPS Terrain Map tiles, which ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
•Photo waypoint feature allowing you to snap a photo and mark and record the coordinates of plant life, animal species or landscape views. Post or share these remarkable finds with family and friends with the click of a button.
•Friend Finder feature that tracks friends and family around the parks.
•Built-in compass.
•Potentially life-saving Alert feature that supplies GPS coordinates to designated contacts in case of an emergency.

Other standard features make exploring the great outdoors a breeze:

•Thorough information on all state parks including general policy, contact information, activities, trails, park maps and much more.
•Detailed, cacheable maps of park facilities, trails and campgrounds.
•Up-to-date news, park advisories and weather information.
•Sharing features for sharing current positions, waypoints and recorded tracks via Facebook, Twitter, or email.
•A real-time Calendar of Events.
•Access to online reservations that make it easy to secure overnight visits.
•Plus so much more!

With the Pocket Ranger® in hand, prepare to bask in the vast natural wonders of Georgia State Parks & Historic Sites State Parks!

•The enhanced pro features on the app are designed to function in areas with little to no mobile reception; however, some of the features require mobile data reception in order to function properly.
•Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

I can't use the app because an ad won't close and stay closed, the same ad keeps coming up right after I close it. Makes it hard to decide what park I want to visit when I can't get rid of the ad. Fix it so I can use the app and I'll rerate based on my experience with it

Haven't used this app in a while and decided to download it again. Seems that you can't do anything now without clicking on and going to the advertisements that keep popping up. Whenever I want to find out anything, and advertisement for Thermasal pops up, and there is no clearing it, even when clicking the big X on the top right of the screen. I don't take time for advertising. Looks I'll be looking for another app. Don't even mind purchasing an app if it means not having to deal with advertising.

I use this app all the time. It'd great to be able to see where the nearest park is and load park maps. It would be nice if I could download park and/or trail maps to my phone storage. It would be easier to use the maps and a little safer in case the app stops working.

I downloaded this and the one for Tennessee and haven't even been able to use it one time. Click on it and it crashes before it even opens up.

Crashes often, clunky interface

D70%
by D####:

The Explore feature has a bunch of cryptic icons for searching parks near me and the legend won't load or crashes. The activity icons in this section seem to be different than the more logical ones throughout the rest of the app. The Explore by Activity feature generates a lost of parks by activity, but is not available in a map view so I can't tell what's near me. So close to being a useful, but completely unusable as is. I even tried on iOS and had all the same issues so it's not just an Android problem.

D70%
by D####:

What's with the constant barrage of banners and popups? Every time I click something I gotta see another Cabela's ad? Paid version please! Other than that, does what I want.

Y70%

The categories on the first screen disappear to show a cabelas ad and can never be accessed again.

When I try to access a map or make s tension from within the app, it tells me that I am using an Android phone and asks fi would like to download the app or use the mobile site. You're asking me if I want to download the app from within the app?? How dumb is that? Lots of potential but too many bugs for primetime.

T70%
by T####:

I cannot believe this is the official site??? Did my tax dollars pay for this? Horrible interface and not functional. Fix it so it looks like an adult made it and not a "hello world" my first app by Fisher Price...

T70%
by T####:

Good basic info and maps but does not have events listed (which is what I wanted). App only fills up 2/3 of my Motorola Razr screen.

T70%

I do not know why the negative ratings. Maybe they can't read. It works as stated and love the instant access to park info and gps map features!! A must have app for the outdoor enthusiast!

R70%
by R####:

Doesn't include Chattahoochee Bend SP in the "places near me", map. Also, information about Chatt Bend is completely wrong, when you do find it under the "all locations"

H70%

Events won't update. Other then that great app.
