This FREE all-inclusive outdoor guide was created in a collaborative effort between the Connecticut Department of Energy & Environmental Protection and ParksByNature Network®, and the next generation of the app is better than ever.
Powered by Pocket Ranger® technology, the app gives outdoor enthusiasts an environmentally friendly way to enjoy the parks. It contains everything you need to plan a trip to the state parks, navigate them once you get there, and share your experiences afterward.
Newly added features:
•New user interface (UI) with a sleek, more photo-centric home screen design.
•Photo galleries on each park description page.
•A new Explore feature to optimize search capabilities, allowing a 4-in-1 search by location, activities, category, and site name, making it easier to find the perfect recreational destination.
The app still has rich GPS features, such as:
•Advanced GPS Maps, complete with an accuracy and distance indicator, which allow you to access trail data, record tracks from hikes, runs, or bike rides, and view elapsed time and distance traveled.
•Easy-to-cache GPS Terrain Map tiles, which ensure that navigation remains possible in the event of lost mobile reception.
•Photo waypoint feature allowing you to snap a photo and mark and record the coordinates of plant life, animal species or landscape views. Post or share these remarkable finds with family and friends with the click of a button.

This app worked a few years ago but now it's just like every thing else in this state- total garbage. The explore screen is no longer and every time you try to open up the maps or settings it just shuts down. It must be because of all of the cuts in funding because of our fabulous governor Dannel ( Elmer Fudd) Malloy. This app and state are both in a state of total disrepair!

I used to love it. Now it does not work. Can not look up parks any more. The explore button is not there anymore and no way to explore the parks anymore. I uninstalled and reinstalled with no changes. Such a waste and I am uninstalling it.

So far I like it. The GPS will be very helpful when hunting. I suggest a place where we can record the game we take instead of the end of year survey. Who remembers then?

Difficult to navigate. Some "features" just don't work. Endless prompts to login, even after logging in 10 times. Slow to work. Crashes and freezes a lot.

Maps are not very detailed. I tried to see the trails around Talcott mountain and the map on here is missing most of the trails. When I try to look at a map the app puts an ad on screen that covers the map, most of the time it covers the key! They should make the map stop at the top of the ad rather than just putting the ad, which you can not close, on top of the map. Once again Google is a better source of information than this government tool

If you ever feel bored just open this app. It answers any question you have on state parks. From where its located, what each park offers, and park maps. You can search in so many ways.

I installed the app with high hopes that it would provide trail information for Wadsworth Falls state park. It has the park listed, but nothing comes up. The interface is cryptic and I was unable to find any help either within the app or at the website. I'm going to uninstall it.

This is an amazing resource for any hiker located in or around Connecticut. Includes features such as a map of every state park, details of every state park including trails maps, the ability to cache GPS maps, as well as other information regarding volunteer opportunities, you name it... even has a nice photo sharing option built in. Note that I have not had any problems with the App crashing. I am running ICS on a Sony Xperia Ion. I recommend 100%! Extremely well designed app!

Slow, klunky, and bloated with adds, takes up about 60mb all said and done and nearly unusable due to bugs and inefficient navigation. Skip this and check out Google.

At first i was skeptical but after putting it to use, it's amazing! It helped me navigate through a park during a family trip. Highly recommend.

This app is awesome! If you like the great outdoors this app is for you. It shows you where any and all state parks, etc are and even has advanced GPS settings to guide you through whatever trail or park you are at. And if you run into danger there is an alert button on the top right corner that alerts family and authorities. Not to mention you can search for new parks and get details, reviews and fun facts about possible places to go to. This is definitely an app worth getting.

I had great hopes for this and tried it on 2 phones-an LG and now a Moto G. Cannot retrieve cached maps. It always shows half map of the US and Canada and half of the screen is blank. If I zoom in, the whole screen goes blank. Any suggestions? Already tried reinstall and updates.

I downloaded this app for use this summer, and it has been great! I love the fact that I can quickly view which parks allow camping, see them on the map, and even connect to make an online reservation. It has been the perfect summer vacation companion as I discovered new trails, parks, and activities in the state! I updated the app and there has been no crashing. Highly recommend!

These state park apps have proven to be very useful during my outdoor excursions! I love discovering new places to hike and the park maps are very helpful to have at my fingertips. I have a lot of fun snapping pictures of my favorite scenic waypoints and sharing them on facebook and with family and friends easily as well. I would definitely recommend this app to any park goer!
