Stream Magic Lite for Android
Not great but does work. The internet radio and presets make it worth keeping. If you're looking for a good HD 24 bit experience try JRiver Media player. On your android install the Gizmo app. There's a learning curve and lots of options especially when configuring the DLNA DSP but it's well worth it.
One year ago I bought my minx xi. I tried both stream magic and stream magic lite and couldn't believe how buggy they were. Totally unusable apps for such a nice machine. Now a year later I thought that there must be some development made. I noticed the beta version of lite and my hopes were high (at least you have done something during this year to give better mobile experience for the Minx Xi) I installed the app and tried to open it.. it crashed.. and again and again. Will not try again. Not even next year
Apps is vitable nowadays. It works but has several serious issues that should be solved. First periodically rebooting and getting stuck. Using s4 lollipop v502. Then it lack feature to pass audio like via bluetooth.
Works almost perfect now.
Having come from a Sonos Connect via a Squeezebox Touch, I find this app possibly the most frustrating. The Squeezebox was slow as mud but I think the Cambridge outdoes it... Firstly, there is the ridiculous amount of time the app takes to load the folders, whether it is displaying them by artist, genre, folder etc. it is painful. Second is the insane inaccuracy in what the app displays as the contents f a folder and the possible actual contents. Third is the fact that every time you want to go into your folder list to pay another track or album, the whole indexing process has to start again. This app, along with the Stream Magic 6 v2, is draining my life. Please sort this out, Cambridge! Why can Sonos make an app and device that is so smooth and fast, yet your reputable company cannot? It is insanity! Copy what Sonos has done or something! Stream Magic 6 v2 is awesome, but is severely let down by the interface.
A functional if very unpolished app. No match for the Cambridge streaming hardware which is excellent. Come on Cambridge put some real effort into this. Look at the oppositions apps for some intuition and inspiration...
When will this leave beta? We're well into March, about a year after the release of the most dreadful app ever conceived. Where is USB browsing? Useless app for me without it. Which imbecils rated this more than 2 stars? Total disaster!!!!
This is a great version of the app. Always connects to my sm6 and always updates the playlist and play progress if you come back to it later. I love the simple and efficient playlist functions and the way you select a server. Considering its only a beta its great.
When will I be able to view tunes via USB? Unable to use this app until that feature is implemented. Cheers.
Still needs work, much work.
Needs more work
Crash frequently.
"Adding to the queue via folder actions is not currently possible with some network music servers" under which Synology I would have thought this would certainly have been fixed in the next update, but I was wrong. When I want to play a folder (which is almost always) I have to add every track to the queue one by one, and that is completely ridiculous and tiresome.
well done...so far when can we expect usb browsing support ,all my music is stored on an usb external hard drive, this is the one thing i need above all others frank C UK
Thank you for this beta. My minx xi will be just perfect with your functional app! Keep up the good work.
This new app is a massive step up from the old app. Whereas the old app often crashed, this one works consistently and very fast. The new design is also much more appealing. Well done and thank you Cambridge Audio for providing a new, improved app even for the older, first generation stream magic 6.
Browse by using UPNP from XBMC/Plex server on Nexus 7 (2014) tablet. - Lags when browsing folder/albums view. - Album art is missing on some albums. - Not able to play "some" tracts within an album, returned with "End of Queue". - Occasionally crashes. - Should be able to select an album and hit play without first being queued. cumbersome. Browsing via Twonky UPNP is slightly better, still lags. Slight delay between swapping actions are initiated, folders scrolling across screen. This is via the new Cambridge Magic Stream 6 V2 in conjunction with my Qnap NAS (TS-470 Pro with Intel i7 CPU). Unit is connected by wired Ethernet straight into my router. Therefore network bandwidth is not an issue. Take a leaf out of book, look at Plex. Beautiful and simple to use.
Has crashed my tablet 5 times in two weeks. Slow to load, poor album artwork, often freezes. Doesn't always recognise my libraries. Bought Stream Magic to replace ageing Logitech Squeezebox. The sound (when it works) is admittedly better, but the functionality is WAAAY behind.
I'm not able to access to local media, e.g. hard drive through this app. Please add support!!!
Everything working preaty good. I stoped using bubble player, and started to use original program. The two bigest problems are: the volume control dont work on samsung s3 and s4. I can volume up. But cant volume down. And the second problem... please, do that i can chose what part of track i want to lissten. Imagine concert, 1.5 hour long. I can't select the midle of the concert. Just lissten from the start. Somehow with bubble soft i can do it easy. Overall not so bad. It works. And i am happy.
How long does it take to come out of beta? Unbelievable! Where is USB browsing? Zero points until it's back. Useless app for me without it. Get your core functionality sorted before adding the fancy stuff. Come guys, I've bought expensive equipment with high expectations!
Seems to be very stable (HTC One M8), unlike the previous effort; this hasn't gitched once in the few days I've been using it. I finally don't regret my Stream Magic purchase! The volume buttons on the side of the phone don't work as expected; they increase / decrease by more than one step at a time. Also, the Album Art is far too small. It would be a much more enjoyable experience if this could be enlarged, ideally including the option of a giant landscape album browsing mode. Otherwise, very good!
Still doesn't index and search my NAS nearly as successfully as my Logitech. Unable to identify compilations and present them in a meaningful way.
Can't fault this. Remove the old app. This is all you need. 5 stars.
Thank you for your reply. This may be for your engineers. When using the app via Twonky, all of the album artwork is in very low quality. Also Twonky cannot display what kind of device it is (NP30).Please sort this out,I am willing to pay for the app if this is sorted.
Thanks , this app is really good. I like the design better than the other app. All round great job. Well done
This new version works! The old one was hopeless so I wasn't expecting much from stream magic lite, I'm so glad I installed it tho because it's excellent 10/10
I installed yesterday and I almost abandoned my iPad because this version for Android works really well. Good job.
Finally. CA have got their act together and released a proper bit of software so that I can at last enjoy controlling my np30 from the comfort of my sofa without crashes and restarts.
It's finally getting somewhere. This version up to now newer failed me. Always finds the player and server. Doesn't close with the error message.
A huge improvement with hopefully more to come
At last an app that works!
Unable to view local USB drive. Apart from that looks better than the other version.
At least I can connect to my np30 reliably now thanks ca. But it takes a long time for my media monkey server to appear in the library view. Took 10 mins before it showed last attempt. Sometimes its longer and sometimes shorter. Also when adding songs to the queue it can't play them although it tries to. Any ideas ca?
After years of putting up with stream magic not working and letting down a great product. The lite version is functionality over design but that's fine with me!
Cannot find my external hard drive so makes the app pretty pointless and very frustrating. Installed the original app and that does find it. Not much of an upgrade :-( Its now been 13 days waiting for a reply from CA tech support!
Hope it will have no big issue
Just like Stream Magic, Stream Magic Lite on android is unstable. Come on CA all we want to do is to be able to use our CA NP30 or Stream Magic 6 reliably from your app, not be totally infuriated by it. Currently as far as I'm concerned neither app is fit for purpose.
The app really looks good now. Some initial feedback: add back browse USB media as soon as possible, why did you remove it?!! - Service notification icon: remove gray background, make it transparent - Provide setting to not run as a service and/or hide icon- Shorten time that splash (initial) screen is visible. Better to remove that as it degrades the user experience At this time major functionality is removed (usb support) resulting in my 2 star rating. Uninstalled until usb support is added.
