Cambridge Connect for Android
When music is in queue and player is set to repeat, player stops for no reason at all, queue clears itself. CXN. Could use voice search! Freezes and signal weakens! When adding music to Queue, the add single song is so close to add to queue, it's easy to hit it inadvertently resulting in wiping out all music previously added. They should move that to the very top.
No longer works reliable on latest Android Oreo on Huawei mate 10. App stops working after a while. Super annoying. What I particularly don't like is that the cambridge company no longer develops this app. They seem to be all about easy money. I like their amp (minx-xi) but I would think twice the next time.
The balance between price and quality is unstable. First senses is " Wow! It is old school Cambridge Audio!", but then you try to use the device (in spare with this app, too) you totally frustrated. Same bad quality of firmware releases and soft for Android. Sometimes I think Cambridge audio is a mockery. Why can not I show the status of the playback bar on the screen? The rewind of the song will probably appear in the next life. The device for 1k dollars and without elementary functions.
Use for Cambridge CXN. Turn on/off, input select, vol control via WiFi/Android. Best with spotify premium and NAS drive. Shame doesn't control CD player so loses one star. Also would be good if speaker select available. My system: CXA80, CXN, CXC.
Basic.. unintuitive...crashes whenever you enter "settings" menu.. There are some reasonable bits - like browsing the music library and being able to add to the q easily - BUT.. as a shopfront for a high end audio brand it's pretty damn poor.
Good start.. but come on CA make the interface more user friendly..really bland.. Edit 2....Good when it works....why does it disconnect from network for no reason..I use a network cable and it still crashes. A high sum of money for possibly a floored system. Feel let down by CA.
This app is a total disgrace. It crashes very often or lose connection with the player or the server or both. No playlist function nor proper search..... I'm thinking selling my cxr120 as I haven't seen much improvement in a year....
Downloaded this app to replace the Stream Magic app which crashed far too often. This one does crash now and again but is more stable than Steam Magic. The lesser of two evils.
Crashes constantly on the Android platform, almost unusable. Player works for a song or two than comes to a screeching halt and displays the "STOP" icon. Thankfully the iPad is our communal living room device, which runs this app without issue. Avoid this product if you only have an Android OS.
When trying to play tracks from my Plex library I get an error message suggesting I try to add the music from the front panel of my Azur 851n. I have no problem adding music from the front panel, but that was really not the intention when installing this app, right? So the app is useless for me. If I uninstall and reinstall the app it works for a day or so, before I again starting getting the error. Disconnecting the mains of the 851n also helps, but the error return again after short time.
Very unstable, with long lags when acces internet radio. Stil needs hard work from CA. Dear CA please invest more in app development. Your products are top, but apps are still light years from competition.
The app is as glitchy as hell. I had no problems on an iphone but now I switched to android my CXN is poorly controlled by this app. It seems to start playing songs from my nas on my phone and then the cxn just flashes pause play over and over or randomly tries to play every song in my que. For the money its a totally ridiculous that they cant make a good app as the sound is great.
Unable to search or save playlists. Crashes often requiring complete reboots. Cambridge Audio not particularly active in resolving the many issues.
I've been using this for months with my 851N and it works flawlessly. I'm not sure why there are so many poor reviews. Anyway I can play media from my phone, or use it to select streaming presets, find media on the attached hard drive, and control the volume. This (in conjunction with the Spotify app) makes it easy to control the music when hosting parties and away from the system remote.
Recent firmware update has improved on apps stability. This really has replaced the remote control. It will be great if album image can be displayed in folder view
More flakey than box of cornflakes. NOT fit for purpose. Highly unstable and functionally buggy. Total disgrace considering this is supposed to control £1000 player. No response from Cambridge Audio to fix bugs.
Absolute bin of an app. How can the CXN be so good the app be so lame. No search facility, crashes all the time.
After having read all the reviews about this app, thought the only way to find out was for me to use it myself. Currently using a newly acquired Cambridge CXN network player, with the app on my Sony Xperia xz, all high res files being played from my NAS network drive, through an Asus dual band router. For me, it works perfectly and that's why I've rated five stars. The unit from my listening position is too far away for me to be able to read the writing to change tracks etc. This app does exactly what I need it to do, I can see the track playing, all the information I need is there, I can add to my play list, change tracks, pause from anywhere in the house, choose a different radio station, all from my phone. It's also very friendly to use.
After weeks of using this app I'm lowering my rating. The CXN player is awesome... this app sucks. I'm sorry, but it just does. I can use a raspberry pi, hook it to the CXN and have a FAR, FAR better interface using Volumio -- for free (and $0.99 app). C'mon guys, spend the $, get a good app going. Take a look at the Volumio or roon interfaces to get an idea of where you should be.
Basic UI, basic tools, needs to be iterated soon. Cambridge Audio mean we'll but need to invest in the software as a road map to future business model
Why do apps like this always expect all devices to be on the same network. Allow people to enter an address and avoid auto detection. My media player is on a seperate network then my mobile for obvious reasons.
Still unstable, app freezes, and causes my minx to reboot frequently when playing some radio stations
It's a good app but some times it suddenly stops working and also when adding tracks to the que once you exit the app then start it again it doesn't seem to be able to play the que again you have to delete and select again please fix this problem plz plz fix this
*EDIT 2* - I've had an opportunity to use this app with a brand new CXR120 A/V receiver. Surprise! It's still a dog. Add-to-queue can time out and crash the app. Ditto browsing for stations. It's been 3 versions of this thing over what, 5 years? And they STILL can't get out right. I spend a lot of my money on high end gear and because they just cannot get this right, I'm fairly certain I'll never buy a Cambridge product again. *EDIT* -Since posting the following, the app has altogether lost capacity to sync with NP-30.- This is just barely an improvement over the atrocities that preceded it, but still crippled with problems. Doesn't crash as often, but completely loses ability to sync w/ my np30 after power cycling the np30, or the phone goes to sleep. The only resolution I've found for this is to power off np30, power cycle the phone, then re-sync the devices. Gawd-DAMN Cambridge, will this thing ever be stable enough to use?
Is fantastic great for picking radio stations tracks albums you want to hear without scratching vinyl after you've had a few drinks also very handy for turning volume up and down from wherever you are in the house.
I found it very crude. Unless you have a large screen, album titles could not be seen in artists. Bring back squeezebox!
Very limited with tons of bugs. Album art doesn't work in list views for Dlna or at all for USB. Any chance of fixing this this year?
I haven't experienced crashing/locking that others have, I expect this is dependant on your network speed and stability. However, overall very disappointing and makes me wish I'd looked harder at the competition before laying out £700 on the CXN No search function (really CA?) No caching, all track data/album art has to reload each time. Not possible to set a default folder to open when opening app. Each time you have to select CXN, NAS, music folder, the finally album/artist folder. Not possible to save play lists! The interface is about as basic as basic old be. For something even CA say is a software device the controlling software looks like they gave the creative people the day off and gave the job to the accountants. Apps that can stream from a NAS that can do all the above are available for a couple of quid (eg musicstreamer) Finally, if you are thinking of buying the CXN be aware that Spotify Connect only works if you have premium, CA don't mention that. I have bought CA products for years but this the first I wish I hadn't.
No search function on DLNA devices. Unstable with local DLNA service on an android device. I miss a amazon music connection like spotify.
The Cambridge NP30 is a fantastic bit of hi-fi gear but this app is a profound disappointment. It works -- most of the time. But I didn't appreciate just how poor the interface is until i started using the Denon Remote App with their CD player / music streamer. The DAC in the Cambridge leaves the Denon for dead. But the app through which one has to control the Cambridge is SO BAD compared to the Denon alternative! (And the Denon app, in turn, pales in comparison to newer, better streaming apps.) The principal shortcoming is the way in which the Denon app shows the content of my music library in a nicely organised and intuitively indexed way. The Cambridge is just awful. Now you could say, 'Well, you just need to organise your files on the network storage better and improve your tagging.' Well, sure -- that's true. But it's also a lot of work. And the thing is, with the Denon app I don't have to. It brings order out of chaos for me in ways that Cambridge Connect doesn't. So, bottom line: Cambridge Audio has built an Aston Martin and then put cheap plastic seat covers in it. Lift your game Cambridge!
Very often can t acces network servers or not recognize any audio format from network server
Couldn't find its own arse total shite
Takes a lot of clicks to get to preset radio stations, operation volume control is inconsistent
Can not access music files from buffalo nas LS-XHL or LS-WSXL, " error displaying server files" ,IOS is ok, android is too stupid
Adding files to the queue is still a matter of chance whether they will play in the desired order. Spoils the experience of an otherwise excellent piece of super-fi
No play list save, random limited in size, basic.
Keeps freezing up and then restarts...a load of you know what...
I would like to be able to fast forward or rewind through tracks. I can only skip to the start or end of tracks
August 2016 update: Android app has been working well on phone and tablet for some time now, on Azur 851N, for most functions I tried including accessing music on Synology UPnP, USB and radio. Wish list: ability to sort albums by album-artist or other criteria, a fast forward and back or seek function, BBC iPlayer, access to BBC listen-again streams.

Brilliant as a remote to access my NAS and select and play albums or tracks. Radio should default to presets as this us used more than browse. Browse should be enabled to remember country at least country. The attempt at playlists is weird but doesn't concern me. Can the radio include what's playing now as seen on DAB radio?
