About AT&T Messages for Tablet

With AT&T Messages you can send and receive text and pictures messages from your tablet or computer. Your messages are stored in the network so you can continue the conversation even when you switch devices. AT&T Messages uses your AT&T mobile number, so whether you send messages from your phone, tablet or computer, everyone will know the message is from you.

To use AT&T Messages on your Android tablet (version 3.2 of the Android operating system and higher), press install, then open the app and log in using your AT&T User ID and you are ready to go!

Key Features:
• AT&T Messages uses your mobile phone number regardless of which device you use.
• View, manage and respond to messages from your phone, tablet or computer. For example, start a text message conversation on your phone and continue it on your tablet, or manage messages online and text a response from your computer.
• Users of the AT&T Messages Android phone app also have their voicemail messages included in their message inbox. Voicemail shows up as visual voicemail in your inbox so you can select which one you want to listen to from your phone, tablet or computer.
• Conversations are organized by person - Communications are organized by person and sorted by when you receive them.
Requires Android 3.2 OS or higher tablet. Your texts are copied to and stored in your network inbox so that they are available on the web and tablet. If you no longer want your messages copied to your network inbox, visit www.att.com/messagesfaq for details on how to remove the service. An unlimited messaging plan is highly recommended with this application. Compatible device required. Standard messaging and data rates apply. For details, go to att.com/messages.

If you're getting a token error, you need to enable the messages backup & sync service on your phone first. Open your apps folder, find an app named Device Help. Once it loads, click Tutorials up top. Scroll down, click Email & Messaging. Click AT&T Messages backup & sync. Here is a tutorial for enabling the service on your phone, as well as links to instructions for setting up this app on your tablet. If you still have issues, and customer service tells you they can't fix it, insist on being transferred.

I've used this app for several years with no problems until recently. For the last 2 weeks incoming messages will not come through the app on my tablet. I can only see messsges I send. Very inconvenient! Also, call log and voice mail is not syncing.

Q70%
by Q####:

Doesn't work with Google Now -- if I try to send a text message using Google Now, I get "Message couldn't be sent". Spent an hour on the phone with AT&T customer support, doing a factory reset and then making sure the software was all up-to-date.Tried two new out-of-the-box tablets, LG G Pad X 8.0 and LG G Pad X 10.1, with the same failures. I was able to use Google Now to send emails, and I could use AT&T Messages with the keyboard to send texts; it's just the combination of Google Now and AT&T Messages that fails.

Q70%
by Q####:

I only get some incoming messages for the number I am logged in as. Switched over to galaxy S7 and galaxy tab S2. From iPhone and ipad. So now I loose features as a result. I will use a tablet to text at times just because it is easier to type. I'm sitting here at home on WiFi and see a incoming text on my phone but no incoming text on this new waste of time tablet and app. Typical AT&T

I have ATT service, both wifi and mobile, yet when I try to use this using the same user ID and password as on my phone and U-Verse service it tells me that I have to us my other ID. They're both the same! I've reset my password and recovered my user ID yet it still won't let me in! Recently switched from Verizon, now there's an excellent messaging app!

I downloaded this app bc my phone just committed suicide. But in order for it to work you have to have a confirmation sent to your cell phone. There should be another way to confirm since im sure plenty of people want it for the same reason as me.

The token warning pops up and I've had my phone set up for messaging backup months before I got this tablet. I feel cheated out of functionality. Waiting on customer service to escalate the ticket in hopes they can fix this.

Dumbest waste of space for yet another ATT product , app that SUCKS! Does ATT wonder why your apps get lower ratings than others. Not only that, they pre-install it.

Q70%
by Q####:

When are you going to update this glitchy, awful app? It, technically, works (on both of my tablets and my PCs and Macs) but has the WORST interface ever on all of them. Verizon Messages works perfectly and, now that I'm on AT&T, I have to deal with this GARBAGE.

Q70%
by Q####:

Overall this app has worked well for me. I use it on my wireless only Tab S, not an AT&T tablet. Except for a rare glitch, I've had no problems...tried other apps but had issues.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app worked perfectly until about a month ago. For some reason, it dropped my connection and required me to login again. No matter what, it rejects all efforts to login. I have removed and tried to reinstall it and now it hangs and won't reinstall. Boogers!

Q70%
by Q####:

It works on the Internet browser but not through the app. AT&T has to do better. For a wireless company so large, the quality of your apps, coverage and WiFi Hotspot are subpar. I'm going with a less expensive company because at least I won't expect premium service.

Q70%
by Q####:

Spent almost 3 hours at the AT&T store trying to get this app to work. Backed up messages from my phone to the AT&T cloud, fine. Set up NumberSync, fine. But when I log in to Messages I get an error about I can't use this account. Password isn't the problem. The sales guy called their support which didn't understand the problem, couldn't speak clearly and was ultimately useless. They opened a case and said i "might" hear back from them before the 14 day return window is up...let me hold my breath...not.

I can send messages, but hardly receive them. I spend a hour trying to figure it out with NO success. It was frustrating

Q70%
by Q####:

After enabling cloud backup the only texts I am able to receive through the app is MMS texts, normal texts are not being backed up or pushed to this app. Don't waste your time, its junk

G70%
by G####:

Have it with new att tablet. No notification available showing on app icon. Hate the format. I use a Samsung phone. Much better text messager.

Q70%
by Q####:

Having alot of trouble trying log in. Keep on getting Error Code 4007. I've used it for several years and it works fine. Got a new tablet, tried to set up and log in on my new tablet. Will not work. It's impossible... Please fix this app...

Q70%
by Q####:

Missing some messages and or parts of messages. Messages sent from this app don't show up on the cell phone. How can you have a seemless conversation if you cannot see all the messages on all devices. Mighty Text can do it, why not At&t?

W70%
by W####:

I'm not getting texts on my Galaxy Tab 10.1. I heard my phone go off telling me I have a new text. It's not showing up on this app even though I have it set to "always check".

Q70%
by Q####:

Why so slow? A different app M....y T..t isn't slow! I'm going back to it.

Q70%
by Q####:

Hard to believe ATT would release such a flawed app. Slow, unreliable. Pretty much a total fail.

Y70%
by Y####:

App must be open and active to receive messages regardless of settings and attached pictures are pixelated unless I open the picture and screenshot it and attach the screenshot.

L70%
by L####:

Initial sign-in on Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 gives error "Device token does not exist". Not useful. Called customer service, they could not help.

Q70%
by Q####:

Would have been nice if the app info stated the app will not work over wireless -will only work on an att provisioned tablet-could have saved myself an hour with tech support

Q70%
by Q####:

Been having trouble with the app. Messages will not update while on the app or in the background. Also can not send messages via the app. The app use to work great and with the update it has not worked.

Q70%
by Q####:

Just switched to AT&T from Straight Talk. Using an old iPhone which is great (compared to an old Android) except that imessages doesn't work and neither does this app.

D70%
by D####:

Just goes to the account setup page for a while then either shuts down or returns to the login page. Wish there was a fix...

P70%
by P####:

Requires a text message to validate the login... so basically you need to be able to receive texts to be able to receive texts. This wouldn't be a problem, except that you have to perform this validation everytime it logs out.... which is a LOT (multiple times a day)... and you're likely only using this for the same reason you'd use the website (which has the same problem, by the way), because you don't have access to the provider network. In other words... I can't think of a time that you'd ever need or be able to use it, unless you just like typing on your tablet instead of your phone for some reason. And then to top it off, receiving texts is often VERY delayed... meaning even when you can use it, you end up using your phone anyway!

Z70%
by Z####:

Not working well these days on tabs or computers/won't display many messages as they come in. Help from ATT employee is wrong as that info is not in that app, which has no *tutorial* or other as stated. Call to tech support 0 help.

Q70%
by Q####:

not receiving calls or voicemail notifications on tablet, don't know why. tried uninstalling and re installing still doesn't work. sometimes messages are not received or sent

Q70%
by Q####:

This app as well as the phone app needs MUCH work! They are very untrustworthy!!!

B70%
by B####:

Only parts of the text conversation come thru. Not reliable. Sometimes it takes several minutes for it to send then it sends the same message 5 or 6 times.

Q70%
by Q####:

Was a able to get text messages before when I first started using, but one i can't get incoming messages. I don't know what else that can be done besides uninstalling. Any pointers from anyone?

Q70%
by Q####:

Seems to take days for my messages to actually download an app that I can view them in this junkie app and I'm not able to open or install any other messaging applications then I might like better well initially I might have liked this app after using others such as the one that was installed on my Samsung S7 I like that app so much more than I like being forced to use this piece of junk on my tablet it especially bothers me that I'm not able to install and then use any of the other messaging apps.

Q70%
by Q####:

This app has it all at the tip of your fingers. No one to call or have it read to you. You see and here it all in one place. Very handy.

E70%
by E####:

It doesn't update in the background, I miss messages, sometimes when I send a message to one person it goes to someone else. Hands down the worst Android app I've ever tried to use: stay away!

J70%
by J####:

It says setting up and never does anything after I log in.

T70%
by T####:

Doesn't work... Ughhh

Z70%
by Z####:

Either gives me an error like it can't access the internet when I log in, or , like now, it says my access ID isn't my access ID .

B70%
by B####:

The app is perfect... Well almost. There are a few features that would be nice to have, but it works perfectly for messaging from your tablet while your phone is off and charging in the corner. I think when AT&T starts giving this app a little more attention it will be a must have/use for your tablet! But again, I got a tablet so that I would not have to use my phone while I am at my house, so ya.... Perfect.
