AT&T Global Wi-Fi for Android
This Wi-Fi app is useless. It failed to connect in Frankfurt, Marberg, Heidelberg, and Sankt Peter in Germany. In Munich it would only connect to a pay for use site in spite of a free site appearing. In Reutte, Austria, it failed to find any sites at all. Luckily we were able to rely on free sites at hotels where we stayed.
Terrible. No explanation. No indication of data usage. Then they had the nerve to "upgrade" me at an additional $60.00.. Then charged 13.50 for the call to their toll free number. In fairness, they refunded the additional charges, but I spent 40.00 and lots of time for no benefit at all...
Tells me to turn off screen app I do not have for it to work. Not impressed with Passport or AT&T right now. I don't have time to call into their support system. I am on my way to Aruba. Next time I will look for a different solution for my international calling needs.
Needs to show data usage. Requires a data connection to find wifi access points. It doesn't crash which is the only reason I am not giving it 1 star.
It found wifi Hotspots, such as Marriott hotels and Starbucks, but it kept connecting to them and disconnecting. I ended up removing the app and manually connecting to Starbucks... The app was preventing me from staying connected. Such a waste when you have to pay for the passport service. Currently Verizon is the best US carrier for Canada and Mexico roaming.
Seriously? Standing in the Salzburg main train station, it wouldn't let me choose Salzburg as a city in Austria. Not once in 2 weeks did it work. Stressed enough about using my phone I basically turned it off, even after calling tech support. Very disappointed & feel I wasted time & money. Will just buy a Sim card in relevant countries next year.
While traveling in Europe with a valid Passport plan, this app never managed to log me into any Hotspot that it listed. Eventually, if I purchased a non-ATT wifi plan or manually logged into a free Hotspot, the app would claim to have successfully connected... this app did literally nothing for me.
We went backpacking through Europe for a month. We were able to connect to an AT&T WiFi hotspot 3 times. We found them all over Barcelona, Rome, and Paris (few to be found in Florence), but we could never connect. We called many times and went through troubleshooting, reset our phones, reinstalled the app, but nothing worked. AT&T were apologetic and generous about compensating us, but the app itself did basically nothing while we were abroad.
Useless: does not work without connecting to cell network. Participating hot spots are too few and far between. Nearest coffee shop or public transportation center is better option.
The app did not work. Further, it modified my Wi-Fi settings so it would constantly kick me out of Wi-Fi sites such as my hotel by turning off the Wi-Fi on my device leaving me totally frustrated.
Don't download this, just use the regular WiFi feature that comes on your phone. Passport didn't locate ANY wifi hotspots, not even the open one available in the airport.
Havent been able to use daily
Had high hopes for this app for a trip overseas. App proved difficult to use and never once detected a Hotspot in major Italian cities.
Save yourself the time and headache by some aluminium foil and scotch tape.Thet will help you connect faster and with less headaches.
Absolutely useless. Don't waste your money...you'll have no use for it.
I can not find any hotspots in the country i am traveling to. I get 'application stopped' error.
I could not connect to anything. It would not show hotspots in Dublin at all.
Hated on on Rome, Israel, Greece, Malta and Turkey. A waste of space!
I'm happy to know the 611 # to talk with someone directly at att has been helpful. As long as I am on wifi from a hotel or Starbucks, the data usage is free I'm told. Calvin was especially helpful today!
Waste of money. Didn't work in Budapest, Vienna, Salzburg or Nuremberg. Seems like a scam.
Phone didn't work for calls. Only texting
The app tries to send an initialization text but consistently fails, so I can't use it.
Grest App!
Family
Worthless in Rome and London
And why isn't it Free?
Mexico
Battery killer, had to uninstall on return from travel and frankly no use abroad, never seemed to provide Wi-Fi access even after recognizing a network
Can not use without cellular service.
This app does not have the option of downloading hot spots "before" you travel to your destination. I tried. When we arrived, you had to know where a hot spot was in order to he able to use the app to find hot spots. Kind of defeats the point in having a "finder" app. I will be uninstalling this very limited capability app.
In Thailand .@truewifi is all over the place, and is suppose to be included as part of the AT&T global plan. Sure it connects to the hotspots, but after 2 weeks of trying to figure out how you are suppose to login I quit trying. It appears the hot spot just wants you to buy their local plan. Seems like a huge waste of time and money, I am interested in how much data plan was wasted on updating hotspots which seemed to only work on cell data coverage and not hotel WiFi. Someplace here there is an EPICFAIL
I'm connected to free Wi-Fi in my hotel (not an AT&T hotspot) and since the so-called update, it's stuck on downloading the latest list. Nothing at all on map. I paid for the highest-value package before traveling and I really wasted my money trying to use this app. I think AT&T purposely wants to make it hard to find hotspots so you'll have to use data instead.
Uggghhh, what a P.O.S.! I'm using a Samsung S4 and it captures the entire wi-fi looking for its own non-existing wi-fi signal. Oh, and drains the battery at the same time. Terrible response time for the entire system when this is running. AND even when connected to your own wi-fi the speed is terrible because this app is stiff messing things up.
Get an international SIM card when you reach your destination. In Thailand they ran about $14usd and came with unlimited data for a 10 day period. My wife and I learned of this on our way home while speaking to a British couple who took full advantage of it. Meanwhile, AT&T is charging us an insane amount of $ for my 200MB data overage. Don't think twice. Hold off and get an international, "burner" SIM card and save yourself the time and money. People hate this app for a very good reason.
Since the 'update' my battery consumption increased dramatically. I went into the Battery option within the OS and it said 14% of my battery consumption was from this app. Mind you I was not roaming at all or international. I had not even loaded the app. It was loaded on boot and running in the background. I went into the app and turned off the search for wifi and consumption dropped back to normal. Downside is now when I go international I now have to go and enable the wifi search and then also have to live with degraded power consumption. This upgrade was a real downgrade on an already marginal app.
Just find hotspots. Not good for much else!
Wifi
The app has no apparent direction. The spirit of the effort here is great, but the follow through lacks immensely. Apparently by the ratings, several people agree. A more useful implement would be a close to real-time monitor of mobile data usage OR clearly defining what counts as data/text/voice utilization bumped up against cost according to the current plan.
This app is about as useless as they get. It's not difficult to find Wi-Fi (which is all this app does). What would be nice is knowing how many megabytes of int'l data I've used. Or how many minutes (at 35¢ per minute) I've talked.

This app does not deliver what at&t promises. First you have to buy a calling package before you leave the usa. The amount of wifi spots in england seemed limited to airports and train stations. If you are out in the country you will incur roaming charges as there are no wifi hotspots. That was not made clear to us when we bought the package. You are better off buying a pay as you go phone as soon as you land at the airport and use that while you are abroad.
