MAIMOON PALACE
Being one of Deli Medan's prominent cultural heritage sites, Maimoon Palace is majestically stand facing east on an area of 217 X 200 meters, surrounded by a one-meter high steel gate.
With a total area of 2772 m2, and according to its layout, Maimoon Palace can be categorized into three sections: the main building, east wing area, and west wing area. The main building encompasses front and back facade. The lenght of the front of building is 75.30 m with 14.40 m in height. The building has two stories that is supported by 82 rock colomn and 43 wood colomn with the shape of up-side-down pyramid boat and horse shoes. Its roof took the shape of a pyramid and domes, which there are three on the front facade. From architechtural point of view, its roof is a two-storied roof. Through its marbled stairs corridors, we can go up to the second level if the main building with its left and side terrace area that serve as bridged-pavillion. Through a European-styled doorway, we will enter a room which was function as a guests room, where the Sultan received and entertained his guests.
In the surrounding area of Maimoon Palace, there is Al Mashun Grand Mosque that was built in 1909. The mosque is octagonal and has south, east, north and west wing areas. In addition to the Al Mashun Grand Mosque, Maimoon Palace also features Sri Deli Garden which was built as a recreational area for the Sultan and his families during the Dutch East Indies era.
Within the Maimoon Palace complex, we can found a legendary canon called, Meriam Puntung (Stump Canon). The canon can be found on the right side of Maimoon Palace in a small Batak-styled pavillion where it is kept and preserved.
