About Grasshopper: Learn to Code

Learn to code for free on your phone, in as little as 5 minutes a day.

*** THIS APP IS CURRENTLY IN BETA. Please request an invite and we'll try to get you on as soon as we can.***

So here's the deal: everybody can learn to code. The problem is that today's university-first approach is a bit old school, and frankly, out of touch. That's why Grasshopper offers a new kind of curriculum for the everyday coder. In particular, Grasshopper:

* Fits in your pocket, and your lifestyle. You don't need a fancy laptop or a lecture hall to write code. You've already got a supercomputer in your pocket! So fire up your smartphone, and start coding during that commercial break, or your evening commute.
* Focuses on doing, not just reading. The best way to learn to code is to actually write code. That's why Include goes straight to coding real stuff, not watching hours of videos or learning syntax. You're writing real JavaScript from the very first lesson.
* Finds the approach that fits you best. One size doesn't fit all. Not when it comes to pants (even the stretchy ones), and definitely not when it comes to coding. So Grasshopper lets you explore different lessons, and provides just-in-time feedback to guide you along the way.

What some of our students are saying:

"Tasks were small and easy to do while chilling out or on a commute!" - Jane, 21

"I like how Include helps you learn one step at a time. It's not overwhelming for someone who’s just starting to learn." - Ankit, 29

"I enjoyed breaking it down into small building blocks, and being able to get satisfaction from building something early." - Claire

I sounds great. I haven't tried it because i have to wait 7 days. I really want to learn coding, i've went to classes. And i think this would help me learn more.

Q70%

I found the app useful. The app would be a little better if it gave the user the option to reveal the answer after about 5 attempts. Other than that it's a great app to teach code.

by U####:

Interesting way to learn JavaScript. Maybe in the future the game could give you the solution with an explanation after a certain number of failed attempts at a particular task

Q70%

Lots of trial and error but completed all the basics thus far. Looking forward to its completion.

Grasshopper takes a complex topic and makes it doable in bite-size challenges. Feels more like you are learning rules of a game than learning how to code. You try combining just a few terms and get instant feedback as to whether your code works. I really like the support provided when you get stuck. There is a glossary of terms, and, a one-on-one help desk. This is a well developed, fun way to learn a salable skill.

Surprisingly reasonable to code on the phone, and it's introductory material but real JavaScript. I wouldn't be shocked if this grew to be a tool for professional coders as well as learners. I am already a coder so I didn't use this to learn, but it does seem like a good introduction to basically programming concepts. Would recommend!

I really like the app. You have to first wait for 7 days to get to the first course, but once it starts, you'll see it's worth the wait. Now a question to the developers: I went through all JS courses and most of the BETA ones, but I got stuck with filtering the red boxes and drawing the green boxes (2 of the beta courses). Is there a way to get the answer to these 2 cards? I'm unable to get the variables right and would like to see how these get solved. Thanks and keep the training cards coming :)
