Back to loving this app. All issues that seemed to appear with last update have now been fixed. Took a little longer than perhaps it should, but all video files with all codecs now work perfectly and network streaming is back to archos standard. Even grid view is fixed in tv interface.

Best video player Works great with my media server. Before I was using a combination of MX player and ES File explorer to acess and then play videos through the network. This is a one stop shop for all my video needs. Update: I miss the carousel

F70%
by F####:

Easily the best video app for Android. If you're looking for a simple yet elegant player this is the one for you. Handles UPNP and SAMBA shares like a pro and unlike others in the market it will actually download posters and synopsis for videos stored remotely.

I see a blurr line at the bottom of the screen while playing videos. Please fix this.

Still no audio support for AC3. Will not play all audio formats. MKV'S can be an issue too. Would like to see some improvements in these areas. Unbeatable though for their Audio and Night boosters. Would like to see those as Standard in other players. ***** 5 stars go to James Watson V for his review. Thumbs up for that. Am in complete agreement. Archos could definitely improve there! P.S. VLC will not play AC3 either. *** Has recently started crashing. 4th November through to December 2016.

Honestly, this is the best standalone player in the market. The only thing it's missing is a chromecast feature. Then it'd be perfect! Edit: There's now Chromecast support via localcast or allcast apps. It works for what I need it for perfectly. It even works (with a beautiful interface) with my amazon fire tv stick. You can't beat it.

Tried them all. This works without a fuss 99% of the time. Note: You may need to add the separate archos codecs pack if you have files that are not playing correctly.

The best app I have seen, but feel conned that some codecs you have to pay again. My way round this is to convert the video file to another format. Usually mp4 compatible with my tablet. So now, I don't use anymore, a real shame. Could be the best!

I love it's ease of use, hate that it nickel and dimes you for plugin, does not support opus at all and because of this I'm forced to use Kodi or SPMC.

After the last update 5.1 AAC no longer passes through even after trying mode 1 & Mode 2. DTS works perfectly fine.

Z70%

Works very well on almost every device I have including my Sony x930d which plays 4k content and fairly slickly collects information. On video files and connects easily to SMB shares including NAS

So far it has played anything I've thrown at it. Pretty good hardware decoding use or is it software?

K70%
by K####:

Only thing it needs is some skip forward/backwards controls as it can be a pain sometimes trying to judge a time location by the progress bar alone.

T70%
by T####:

Love this app. Even with the additional codecs it does not decode all sound (never had a problem with video) but the UI is fantastic. I have an alternative video app that plays everything and all sound but looks a lot less nice and is less user friendly. My favourite and most used app.

I have been looking for an app that plays h264 videos taken by cctv this worked when all others failed could do with video converter feature

T70%
by T####:

Won't play some videos without proper codecs. Archos does not give you any official way to obtain these codecs, all they do is link you to the play store with a "Archos video plugins" search. Would be really nice if Archos could publish their own official codec pack

It's taken me years to find this app and its the best have ever seen, it does everything I want and more. Makes VLC player and others look like child's toys.

Just got an update sure would like to know what it was for. It would only be polite to say what it is!_________________________________Plays ALL video files. This video player is worth every penny. The UI is both beautiful and functional and a wonderful widget thrown in plus it plays every file I've thrown at it, some that don't work on other players. The developers have excelled. Looks great on my Samsung Galaxy NotePro tablet. This is what you want in a pro player.

I live in China and this program keeps trying to randomly connect to Google to check the program license is real. It is a very big hassle since we don't have access to Google here. I already verified it more than 10 times. How do I disable this!??

I put in a samsung 256 micro sd card and now it is not scanning the storage, I have also tried to rescan from the preferences. I also can navigate to movies on my sd card but it won't allow my to "Add to library" either. Can you update the app?

So I would give this more than 1 star, but the first thing I go to watch it tells me AC3 not supported. Not a great start....

This is our home setup: Synology NAS (as DLNA server) -> a decent WiFi Router -> Android TVs (Nexus Players) -> Archos -> MX Player (with custom codec). We have four TVs hooked up this way, plus phones, tablets and PCs around the house, and Archos on android TV presents movies and TV shows beautifully with posters. There are lots of hoops to jump through but once all setup it's like having your private Netflix that's fast, reliable, high definition, can steams to tens of screens at the same time and doesn't use WAN. Archos should consider making a light weight app that's just a DLNA media browser which always hands off actually playback to other apps, then focus development efforts on curating content such as highlighting latest movies or episodes, pulling in imdb/rottentomato scores, show youtube trailers... etc.

Some videos did not automatically download coverart despite using proper naming conventions. Also please allow filtering out The at the beginning of titles, so when listed the next word will be used when sorted alphabetically!
