เสียงนกกระทา

นกกระทา หรือ นกคุ่ม (อังกฤษ: Quail) มีลักษณะเป็นไก่ขนาดเล็ก ตัวป้อมสั้นอ้วน สีสันสวยงาม ตามลำตัวมักมีลายเป็นจุดกระ ๆ ปีกและหางสั้น ทำให้บินได้เฉพาะระยะใกล้ ๆ เหมือนไก่ จึงมักหากินเมล็ดพืชและแมลงอยู่ตามพื้นดิน นกกระทา กระจายพันธุ์ไปในทุกทวีปทั้งโลกเก่า (ยุโรป, เอเชีย, แอฟริกา) และโลกใหม่ (อเมริกาเหนือ, อเมริกาใต้, ออสเตรเลีย) เป็นนกที่มนุษย์นิยมเลี้ยงเพื่อบริโภคเนื้อและไข่เป็นอาหาร มีบางส่วนที่เลี้ยงเพื่อความเพลิดเพลิน เช่น นกกระทาญี่ปุ่น (Coturnix japonica) ที่แต่เดิมเลี้ยงเพื่อฟังเสียงร้องคล้ายนกเขา แต่ต่อมาได้มีการพัฒนามาเลี้ยงเพื่อบริโภคเนื้อและไข่ ซึ่งนกกระทาที่นิยมบริโภคกันในประเทศไทยก็เป็นนกกระทาชนิดนี้ Partridge or quail (English: Quail) has a small chicken.
