Chicago Tribune for Android
Bad performance in paid mode, too limited in free. Stories will not scroll until ads load, and ads take far too long; links frequently don't launch; app crashes far too often for a basic, no-frills news reader (again, the ads). If this is "new media" Tronc, they don't have the tech down yet.
Why is it that I have to use this instead of the red-eye app. You should've left that app alone, as it's difficult to find the red-eye articles now. This app does not load and is incredibly boring to look at. Idk how tronc can claim to be web-first when their app is so far behind the competition. I assume the developers are doing the best they can with the tools provided, so management needs to recognize that this is not complete yet.
I am a Tribune subscriber, every article has a pop up advertisement.
I really like the old version where I can open the app to a full newspaper, flip the pages as if I'm reading the paper paper. I like being able enlarge the article on that page instead of the current version this app utilizes.
I turned off sports notifications because I only want real news but it pushes sports notifications every couple of hours. Otherwise, it's clean and easy to use.
Loading...loading... I would have uninstalled this thing right away if it weren't my local paper. I get almost all my news from The Guardian. Now with a later version the loading was okay for a while, now pretty slow again, and it likes to forget I'm a subscriber!
App not working properly. I've subscribed to New App for at least a year and now I am unable to access all of the stories. Customer Service is saying that 4.99 per month gets you 5 articles. If that's the case, I will cancel this service.
Portrait mode is horrible
Very precise
Auto play video that forces orientation change, lots of force closes
Freezes and shuts down frequently
I enjoy the stories are updated frequently. I don't have any technical problems. And the reporting is good. Overall organization is fine. I subscribe to the paper version as well, and they're complimentary.
It's kind of hard to log in to your account via google, when there isn't a google button or interface availible.
Keep rebooting. Like how they've integrated the epaper version with the Tribune app.
Recent update (October) locked all the stories into portrait mode. On a tablet, that's bad. Please fix, ASAP. Till then, 2 stars at best.
Portrait mode only? Frequent reboots? Pop-up ads for subscribers? Subscribers no longer able to open eNewspaper articles? I repeat, subscribers no longer able to open eNewspaper articles (11/19/17 while travelling)? What's the point in subscribing if you can't read the actual paper? Absolutely SUCKS!
Add landscape mode.
Unstable app. Disorganized layout.
I love that I am able to access my digital subscription and save articles. The app is very user friendly.
This app desperately needs landscape mode on tablets.
Not user friendly. Connections frequently drop. Video performance is terrible.
Can't log in because they removed the ability to log in using Google. My paying account is useless now.
I love the content, but this app is really buggy. Lots of crashes and issues with video content.
The Tribune content is great, but this app leaves a lot to be desired. It crashes a lot, there are plenty of quirky bugs, and the scrolling feels bad. Many articles have auto playing videos which is already a big no-no, but the stop button is infuriatingly hard to press. They ought to take a few lessons from the New York Times app.
I love the Chicago Tribune and the app, but I would appreciate it if the app would clear the alerts after being read. I find it very annoying to have already read alerts "stored" under the "bell" on the home page. If I have read the alerts, why store it in another place??
The content is good and, as a native Chicagoan, I'll always read the Tribune, but the auto-start videos have got to go. Not only are they annoying and disruptive, they also make your app a huge data hog. Please let me decide if I want to watch the video by tapping on it or opting in for auto-starts. Please stop!
Junk
Nice to be caught up with hometown news
Only news app on my tablet which can't be viewed in portrait.
Very functional, but nothing extra special about it.
I have a subsription. And this, freaking site keeps giving me the trial window after I keep logging in. Plus the app is SLOW!!!!!
I can not view this app in lanscape. A real problem.
A very clean and stable app. Easy to use, articles are well written. Easy to use.
Typifies Chicago, semi-functional.
Great app! Very well written articles
Very slow and buggy. Might be one of the worst apps I use.
Hate that I can't see/write comments through the app
Not great, I could read in portrait or landscape but now ONLY IN PORTRAIT ON MY TABLET which is annoying
Each stability update makes this app even slower than the last. I just waited for about 6 minutes to see a single article under 'top stories' to appear. Beyond frustrating. This app is 100% Grade-A crap.

seamless for me, and i'm rural with spotty networks. No stuttering, no intrusive pop-ups so far. Not sure what is happening to other subscribers, to see intrusive ads. Maybe they changed that since?
