About Rent or Buy
Rent or Buy is a financial calculator that provides an estimate of how much owning a property will really cost you, and whether renting may be a more economical choice. It calculates the break-even period after which owning a property becomes more economical than renting.
There are several factors you may need to consider when purchasing a property, not just its price and mortgage payment compared to your rent. The Rent or Buy calculator considers several parameters to arrive at its decision and shows you a year-by-year analysis of the expenses associated with each choice.
The analysis will empower a potential home buyer to arrive at an informed decision regarding how much will it really cost him/her to own a house compared to renting over time.

Difficult to understand, somewhat difficult to navigate; accepts down-payment as a percent of the price only; does not offer to calculate closing costs per standard formula. One has to guess to tap the app icon in the first line of a two-line action bar to navigate into the results section–if the user fails to guess to try that then the user will get no output at all. Very sparse output once you manage to find it. Promises much but delivers next-to-nothing. There are input fields for several tax-related tech-jargon and such, but nothing is explained and no work is shown. We are left wondering what exactly, if anything, is done with those numbers. There is an input field labeled "Return on investment" -- could that possibly make any sense? The developer seems to have put some effort into making it look nice and then, apparently, he called it a day. If you need a specialized app like this you will probably have to part with a couple of dollars for something serious.
