For some reason most gps navigation apps don't have a compass that shows the actual direction you're pointing when you're starting out. (Once you're moving it shows the direction you're moving.) This helps fill the gap with a compass that optionally floats above any app. Unlike some compass apps, it works even when you're holding your device almost vertical. Unfortunately it uses Magnetic north and doesn't show True north which would be slightly more accurate for map/navigation purposes.

The most accurate reading I can get is when my phone is laying down on a flat surface. This is inconvenient for driving or just looking at your phone when holding it. The floating compass is large and can't adjust size. HTC One M8. T Mobile.
