2006年に藤原竜也と松山ケンイチの出演で公開された、『DEATH NOTE』の正統な続編となる新作が2016年秋に公開されます。

実写映画版の誕生から10年目となり、物語の舞台も2016年とし、映画・ドラマ・アニメ・舞台でもまだ使用されていないルールを基に、地上に舞い降りた6冊のデスノートをめぐる壮絶なバトルが繰り広げられます。
