Watertown is Punggol’s first residential-cum-commercial development that harnesses the historical and natural beauty of Punggol Waterway - the first-ever man-made waterway in Singapore. The Punggol Waterway - Singapore’s largest man-made waterway at 4.2km long is within walking distance from Watertown. The Punggol Waterway has won many awards and accolades in 2012. On 15 August 2012, the Punggol Waterway won the Global Superior Achievement Award, the highest honor awarded by the International Water Association (IWA), for the most outstanding project in all categories and this is also the first time an Asian country has clinched this award. On 23 October 2012, it won 2 awards - the FIABCI Singapore Property Award and the Institution of Engineer Singapore (IES) Prestigious Engineering Achievement Award for being an engineering marvel. The waterway also won the gold award in the Project Built category at the 2012 International Awards for Liveable Communities ceremony, held at Al Ain, in Abu Dhabi on 26 November 2012. This latest honor, endorsed by the United Nations Environment Programme, recognizes best practices in the management of local environments.
UNVEILING THE FUTURE OF PUNGGOL
The North Coast will be developed into an innovative, economic corridor buzzing with ideas, creative design and new technologies. Spanning across Woodlands, Sembawang, the future Seletar Regional Centre as well as Punggol, this commercial belt will be touted as the North Coast Innovation Corridor.
The creative cluster within the North Coast Innovation Corridor will be developed at Punggol. This creative cluster is slated to become a vibrant and attractive area, with new exciting commercial activities.
Additionally, with the new Punggol Matilda estate plan announced, more new scenic waterfront spaces in Punggol will be introduced. With this development, residents in Watertown will have enhanced transport infrastructure, and new recreational spaces, entertainment and amenities.
Residents at Punggol can look forward to a greener town, when more green parks and green corridors are being integrated with the waterfront promenades. As HDB’s first Eco-Town, there will also be a sports complex, learning corridor and the Old Punggol Road will be kept as a linear 1.5km long Heritage Trail for all to enjoy leisure strolls, jogging and cycling amidst lush greenery. “Green fingers” – or paths lined with greenery – will extend to reach the coastal promenade and Coney Island.
A new Town Square will be developed in the heart of Punggol town for community gatherings and events, there will also be a new hawker centre and Community Club where residents can gather and organizes local events and activities. Additionally, Punggol also offers waterside dining lifestyle, similar to Clarke Quay, at restaurants like Bacon & Booze, Frienzie Bar and Bistro, and Wild Oats !
