In 1985, Jason Wold walked onto a midway in Vacaville, California and asked for a job in a local carnival. His first job was on the midway running the Goldfish game. He worked that week and fell in love with the carnival business. He worked for Rick Larson; at the time all he had was games, and the two of them were running a show called Midway Of Fun. Jason took over managing one section of the show. For the next eight years, he learned every aspect of the business. In 1993 he spun off into his own show called American Traveling Shows. They started out with simple rides like a Ferris Wheel and a Tilt-A-Whirl. They had about ten rides and a Fun House. They then built up over the years, purchasing Roller Coasters and a Kamikaze helping the show to grow. In 2007, Rick decided to slow down and start retiring, and Jason began the transition of buying the show, something they had discussed over the 22 years they had worked together. In 2008, Jason formed Wold Amusements, keeping the same route and just changing the name. Since then they have improved the show and built a bigger and better carnival!
Here at Wold Amusements, we operate under the same philosophy that Jason learned from Rick: we want to run a carnival that we would be comfortable raising our kids in. How could we expect our patrons to bring their kids to a place where we were not comfortable having our kids So we raised our families out here around our employees. All employees are tested for substance abuse and checked under Megan’s Law, and we watch how they interact with the patrons. We have a crew that we know and trust around our family, so that we know the public will be comfortable around them as well.
We sell memories, and it’s our job to sell fun memories. It’s always better in any business, especially in entertainment, to sell a good memory — not a bad memory, so we strive to always sell good memories.
MOTTO
“It’s a World of Family Entertainment.”
LOGO
The logo started as a joke when Jason just owned some games. And Rick decided that, if he was going to call it Wold Amusements, that Jason should have a globe as the main feature because many people mispronounce his last name, saying World instead of Wold! So, as a joke, he started with Wold Amusements, and the next thing he knew, he owned a carnival, and had a logo. He added the Roller Coaster going through the center of it and the Ferris Wheel around it. It is a fun logo but it does confuse everybody!
