VOSSA - (Vehicle observation system of South Africa) -
National Real Time observation of all Motor vehicles which are using public roads. This is done by using a mandatory government fitted GPS tracking device to all new vehicles sold. Owners of these vehicles then install the VOSSA Mobile Application on their Phones. Uses and benefits of this system will include:
• Fair calculation of licence fees according to km’s covered. Payment of this is done electronically via the app.
• Fair calculation of toll fees according to km’s covered. Secure payment made via the app
• Enforcement of traffic laws and automated issuing of traffic fines for speeding etc. This will also eliminate corrupt traffic officers and put them to more effective use.
• Congestion and traffic jams can be observed in real time. Motorists will be notified via the Mobile app of this and can plan alternative routes accordingly. Traffic officers will know exactly where the problem is and solve it quicker.
• This system will also assist in the study of traffic patterns and motorist’s behaviour. The need for new and/or improved roads and infrastructure can be accurately assessed and prioritised. VOSSA takes the guesswork out of Traffic infrastructure planning.
• With sudden impact notification, emergency services can be automatically notified when a vehicle was involved in an accident. There will also be no confusion about the location of the accident, thus response times will be greatly improved resulting in more lives being saved.
• With the ability to observe all legal, licenced and roadworthy vehicles, traffic officials will now be able to spot illegal, unlicensed and unroadworthy vehicles, and act accordingly.
• Car owners can also use this App to automatically notify them when their vehicle is due for a service. The app will make and confirm the booking of the required service with the Service centre.
