About Drone Zones

This app provides a way for people to share appropriate and legal sites they have found for flying, wherever they are in the world. Be it a large, unobstructed open area; easily accessible public right of way for taking off from; beautiful scenery in open airspace for taking stills and video of; or all of the above!

It provides a simple and convenient way to discover places and leave reviews. Helping you to rate places by the following important categories:

- Scenic Value
- Suitability for training/practice (open, clear of trees, etc)
- Ease of Access
- How quiet (i.e. likelihood of people)

A great idea and surprisingly well populated. I expected to see no pins in my area, but there's loads. Haven't used the app much, but first impressions are very good. It does rely on user input though, so reliability of information could be an issue. For example, a pin local to me is actually a county park that specifically forbids the use of drones.

by N####:

Looks like a very handy app. I am hooked after only 10 minutes. A suggestion for an add on. The ability to place a pin for a set time to note that you are currently flying in the area. This would let other flyers know to keep an eye out, or allow meet ups. If you put a timer that expired as well.

D70%
by D####:

Accidently placed and named a pin thinking it was to help with positioning and search parameters. Realised too late. Now I can't delete the pin and my sisters house is pinned as a place of interest :-( Please tell me how to correct this.

by N####:

There is a lot of potential for this app being an extremely helpful tool but it is still quite far off from that. The things that it needs to have are: * a better search engine and interface. The apps shows a lot of pins but most of them do not have reviews attached. It required the user to press on them to find out if they have been reviewed * lack of legal flight zone information

N70%
by N####:

Good idea but more work is needed. Search puts a pin where you search, confusing and annoying, no way to search on zoom in, wants a precise location.

S70%
by S####:

Good as in it works no problems (it's just a Google Map overlay really). The issues I have with it is half of the places submitted are bad locations at least here in the UK, even allowing for low location accuracy. In built up areas you need 150m clear distance from people or property at all times (and to not overfly) so that rules out most towns.

N70%
by N####:

Love the idea, however do a search it tells you places are nearby but there is no way to find or view them. Thought that was the idea. Might be using it wrong but no help function.

I70%
by I####:

Too many complete and utter idiots pinning 'Home' as a good place to fly. I'm not interested in where your house is, you're ruining a good app and idea. Those pinning their own homes need a swift kick in the gonads on a regular basis and the app developer needs to use an algorithm to search and remove these pinned locations.

N70%
by N####:

Seems like a good setup and works nice. Only wish that people wouldn't add businesses and true non- drone areas, kinda clutters the map.

N70%
by N####:

Do not use this you can not fly around airports or hospital and there are pins by all of them in the city. Don't trust it at all its just people saying you can fly there call the FAA to see where you can fly and the law.

N70%
by N####:

It is full of places where it is illegal to fly e.g. the houses of parliament! So you can't trust the locations, therefore useless app

N70%
by N####:

Why do I need to have an account to use an app? You need me, more than I need you.

I70%
by I####:

Listing brisbane international airport as a good place to fly. Irresponisble and useless app

N70%
by N####:

Great idea in principle but ruined by kids leaving useless home address's & stupid comments, instead of legitimate launch sites. Such a shame there's no editing or filtering of entries before they're input to the map, this would be a potentially brilliant app otherwise.

F70%
by F####:

Great app, very helpful and populated however sometimes it's says there is only 5 total pins in my country, 3 of which our mine and others it says way more, other then that bug which I know will be fixed to do some great developers, it's a great extremely helpful app!

Z70%
by Z####:

It's not accurate I have a geofence at the stadium it shows on dji app and uav forecast but not on here, drone zones app needs to be more accurate or it will miss lead people into flying places they shouldn't

N70%
by N####:

Nice idea but crashes for me in 99 times out of 100 before I can see anything. Galaxy s5

N70%
by N####:

Floored idea - sites unacceptable and not screened. Look around Leeds at the pin points. Not located one that's within CAA or dronecode guidelines.

N70%
by N####:

Good idea but some of the locations shown on the map are No fly zones. There should be a way of editing them or adding comment about areas. Always check local policies before flying

C70%
by C####:

Hi, hopefully your downloads just increased as I've just been sharing this among my groups, can I make 2 suggestions-different pins for clubs/no fly zones and something to say whether it's suitable for racing or aerial photography or both. Thanks, FawkedUpFPV

by P####:

Would be a good idea. Dropped a pin but it went to the wrong location and now I can't remove it and unfortunately there are no other pins in my area to really find out if it's a good app. I like how simple u kept it but maybe too simple. Not going to deleted in hopes it improves.

K70%
by K####:

Would get 5 stars if the developers were to include no fly zones, as presently users would post areas of interest and attract flyers into a particular area when in fact it's illegal to fly there!

P70%
by P####:

Something odd with the way this locates places that people have added to the map. A few will pop up immediately near me. But moving the map to another area not to much further away yeilds 0 locations. However once I added a location myself, over a dozen were found in that area. Devs can you fix this? Otherwise this is a great concept of an app.

C70%
by C####:

Would be better if people had to put up a picture instead of being optional. Also, when clicking on a place marker, the picture should come up. Nice UI. Also I would like to link any youtube videos I have to the location I am reviewing.

C70%
by C####:

There is no way I have found to remove a pin you have placed or any way to report a pin to administration if there is any that have been placed with bad information. Think about the red pin for no fly as drone users can help drone users not fly where not wanted and not safe. I will now post some pins but wish it was followed through with more support and administration for above points. I am also moving my star to Just ok as it can be improved.

This is a great idea for finding drone friendly places, we all know there are not enough of them about! Unfortunately, the reviews are not moderated in the slightest from what I have found and may get the user of the app and quadcopter in bother with dibble. National Trust land is sadly a no go flight area, yet there are a number of these locations highlighted on this app saying they are great to fly at. Use it, it's a good app, but take the advice given by users with a pinch of salt and check for yourself.

C70%
by C####:

People are putting up some good places to fly but the problem is that some of them are in restricted areas. I live near an airport and places that shouldn't be used are coming up and it's a hefty fine if caught

M70%
by M####:

It has no reference to restricted areas, and can easily misguide people into thinking it's a safe area to fly when they could be putting themselves into harms way or breaking the law. If anyone uses this app please check your not flying in restricted areas or that there are no byelaws prohibiting you from flying.

C70%
by C####:

Does the job well; though would be nice if you could also add the type of flying style that you think an area is suitable for, maybe in the form of tick boxes? And different colour pushpins to indicate the flying style - there's different requirements for racing/freestyle vs cinematography for example :)

E70%
by E####:

Why no sattelite mode in the maps? Much easier to pinpoint your spot (to the proper tree!) in satellite view.... Do you have an API? I run a a Swedish "variant" of this which is simply nothing more nor less than a public Google map. Would be fun to auto-populate your app from there.... :)

Every time I try to register it says my passwords do not match. I have try everything from copying and paste to simple 123456 kind of passwords it always says the same passwords do not match and don't let me register.

M70%
by M####:

This app is filled with people just randomly adding pins on the map. The community badly needs something like this but it's not very good right now unless you want to sift through random "test" pins

C70%
by C####:

It's ok as more people start using it BUT once you add a marker by mistake there is no way for the person who created it to delete it! So makes me think how many false markers there are out there?

X70%
by X####:

I like the app, but wtf are people adding places where you can not fly? It is like farting in a perfume factory.

C70%
by C####:

Most of the places do not meet CAA requirements, like for example Central London and other populated areas.

A70%
by A####:

Looked in local area, all places are just spam/bars - no ability to report or remove fake suggestions.

C70%
by C####:

Not bad at all, but functionality to link to YouTube videos filmed at the location and ability to message other members and arrange meet ups would make this app perfect.

C70%
by C####:

The first pin I c is in a no fly zone Fingal bay

H70%
by H####:

What do I keep getting needs to update but there is no update available!

Z70%
by Z####:

Has made me visit a few new places to fly that I would have otherwise not thought of. Also like the built in navigation with Google maps.
