Our restaurant is named in honor of Mr. John Hurley, one of the first recorded innkeepers of the Merivale hotel.
Built around 1860, the hotel catered to the needs of the Ottawa Valley farmers as they traveled to and from Ottawa’s By-ward Market. While on their journey along the dry rutted Merivale road, many travelers were glad to pause at the hotel, quench their thirsts and exchange news with John Hurley. The old hotel, unfortunately, has long since disappeared.

In 1980 Keith Taggart and John Thomsen opened the first Hurley’s roadhouse on Merivale road. They grew it into one of Ottawa’s best known and most loved restaurants.
Now Hurley’s Neighborhood Grill is bringing back John Hurley’s tradition of good food and great friends.

If old John was alive today, he would agree that we still have many friends who appreciate a warm hearth and wholesome provisions. We think he would approve of our restaurant with its mixture of old and new, cheery service and fine, yet simple fare.

Our restaurant menu is a tip of the hat to the historic recipes Hurley made famous in Ottawa during the 80s and 90s.
