Hombres G

A David Summers, Rafa Gutiérrez, Daniel Mezquita y Javi Molina el éxito los pilló desprevenidos, viéndose obligados a lidiar con masas enardecidas durante buena parte de los 80 y evolucionando luego, sí, como aquellos de Liverpool, del pop adolescente de sus comienzos hacia terrenos más personales. Para ellos no hubo precedente. Según la leyenda, David Summers (voz ybajo) conoció al guitarrista Rafa Gutiérrez en 1982, formando parte del público en una grabación del programa Aplauso en TVE. Poco más tarde le pidió que se uniera a su grupo, con sus amigos Daniel (guitarra) y Javier (batería), y de modo tan sencillo cobraba cuerpo la formación clásica de Hombres G. En 1983, la banda debutaba en el mítico Rock-Ola combinando inspirados textos naive con guitarrazos de influencia ramoniana, melodías que podrían recordar a los primeros Beatles y un regusto a la New Wave que llegaba, también, de las islas británicas. Venezia y Marta tiene un marcapasos, sus primeros singles, salieron editados en la independencia y obtuvieron una respuesta tibia. Sería un año más tarde cuando, bajo los auspicios de Paco Martín, el grupo grababa su primer elepé, autotitulado. Poco a poco, el single Devuélveme a mi chica comenzaría a sonar en las radios hasta ser tarareado por gente de todo tipo. Con este tema, y con el recuperado Venezia, Hombres G se convertía en un fenómeno social. Desde finales de 1984 y a lo largo de todo el 85, la banda vivió en un desenfreno: cientos de miles de discos vendidos, fans enloquecidas, calles colapsadas a su paso… Mientras la popular Movida madrileña congregaba a sus adeptos en discotecas y pubs afines, David, Rafa, Daniel y Javi eran requeridos en recintos de grandes dimensiones en todo el Estado. La fiebre continúa con su segundo elepé, La cagaste… Burt Lancaster (1986), que rescataba Marta tiene un marcapasos y presentaba temas nuevos como El ataque de las chicas cocodrilo, Visite nuestro bar o la balada Te quiero. Con este álbum el grupo da el salto a Latinoamérica, logrando asombrosas cifras de ventas también al otro lado del charco Atlántico. En 1987, Hombres G edita su tercer disco, Estamos locos… ¿o qué (que contenía Una mujer de bandera y Temblando), coincidiendo con el lanzamiento de su primera película, Sufre, mamón. El estreno del filme, dirigido por el añorado cineasta y humorista Manolo Summers (padre de David), ocasiona grandes tumultos en su estreno y el cuarteto, en la cresta de la ola, se enfrenta a una gira que lo llevaría a Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, Estados Unidos, México y Venezuela. Con un millón de ejemplares vendidos en España, David, Dani, Rafa y Javi tocaban ahora en estadios americanos para decenas de miles de personas. En 1988, el grupo publica Agitar antes de usar (con temas como Suéltate el pelo, Si no te tengo a ti o Nassau) y estrena su segundo largometraje, Suéltate el pelo. En Voy a pasármelo bien (1989), las canciones del grupo comienzan a apuntar un cambio de registro, evolucionando hacia un pop más comprometido y personal. El reflejo exacto de esta nueva inquietud se halla en Esta es tu vida (1990), considerado por muchos su disco más elaborado. De modo paralelo, Summers y Mezquita firman algunas canciones que serían éxitos en la voz de Luz, en especial la balada Te dejé marchar. En 1992, Hombres G se despedía con Historia del bikini para aletargar hasta 2003. Pasada la euforia juvenil, el grupo creyó que había llegado el momento de echar el freno y probar una vida diferente. Desde entonces, Rafa y David siguieron vinculados, de un modo u otro, al mundo de la música en activo (el cantante, con una prolífica carrera en solitario y componiendo para películas y para otros artistas). Daniel Mezquita ocupó un puesto de responsabilidad en Dro(discográfica que posee todo el catálogo de la banda) y Javi Molina ha estado dedicado a su bar… Mientras, los álbumes de Hombres G nunca han dejado de vender. In 1987, Hombres G released his third album, we crazy ... or what (containing A woman flag and Trembling), coinciding with the release of his first film, suffers, sucker. The premiere of the film, directed by the late filmmaker and comedian Manolo Summers (father of David), it causes great turmoil in his debut and the quartet, on the crest of the wave, faces a tour that would take him to Ecuador, Chile, Colombia, United States, Mexico and Venezuela. With one million copies sold in Spain, David, Dani, Rafa and Javi now playing in US stadiums for tens of thousands. In 1988, the group publishes Shake before use (with songs like Let your hair, if you have not you or Nassau) and premiered his second feature, Let your hair. In'll have a good time (1989), the band's songs begin to suggest a registry change, evolving into a more committed and staff pop.
