O Goiás Esporte Clube nasceu de um sonho, que teve os primeiros passos rumo à realidade na noite de 6 de abril de 1943, na calçada da rua 23, Centro de Goiânia, sob um poste de iluminação pública. Foi neste local que um grupo de amigos, que tiveram o sonho em comum, começou a organizar o clube que hoje, passados 71 anos, se transformou num dos principais do País e indiscutivelmente o maior do Centro-Oeste. Ali, naquela calçada, sob aquela luminária, nasceu um campeão.

Na verdade, o inusitado local de fundação do Goiás tem um motivo até certo ponto simplório. O que aconteceu foi que os criadores do clube se reuniram na casa dos irmãos Lino e Carlos Barsi para discutir o projeto. Como se tratava de um grupo de entusiastas, é fácil imaginar o volume elevado das vozes durante o debate. E foi exatamente o barulho da conversa que fez com que a matriarca da família Barsi determinasse que a reunião prosseguisse do lado de fora da casa. Por isso, o Goiás nasceu sob a luz de um poste de rua. Provavelmente, por isso também, que ele seja um clube absolutamente “iluminado”.

Os primeiros anos foram difíceis, embora alguns detalhes já deixassem antever o futuro vitorioso. Acontecimentos como, por exemplo, o 3º lugar no Campeonato Goiano de 1944, o primeiro da história, logo atrás do Atlético e Goiânia, as duas forças da época. Ou a conquista, em campo, do titulo de 1951, perdido posteriormente na Justiça para o Goiânia. De qualquer maneira, se o futuro seria brilhante, as duas primeiras décadas exigiram dedicação, perseverança e determinação dos fundadores. As this was a group of enthusiasts, it is easy to imagine the high volume of voices in the debate. And it was just the noise of the conversation that made the matriarch of the family Barsi determined that the meeting proceed outside the house. Therefore, Goiás was born under the light of a streetlamp. Probably, so too, it is an absolutely club "enlightened".

The first years were difficult, although some details already let foresee the victorious future. Events such as the 3rd place in 1944 Goiano Championship, the first in history, behind Atletico and Goiânia, the two forces of the time. Or achievement in the field, the 1951 title, then lost in court to Goiânia. Anyway, if the future would be bright, the first two decades demanded dedication, perseverance and determination of the founders.
