The Washington Noxious Weeds 2014 app provides the list of weeds that have been designated as "noxious" by the Washington State Noxious Weeds Control Board (NWCB). The information and some photos in this app are from the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board (WSNWCB) web site and are used with permission. The WSNWCB is not associated with the developers of this app.

A "weed" is generally defined as any plant that isn't where you want it. However, "'. . .noxious weed' is a legal term for any invasive, non-native plant that threatens agricultural crops, local ecosystems, or fish and wildlife habitat." Noxious weeds include non-native grasses, flowering plants, shrubs, and trees, as well as aquatic plants that invade wetlands, rivers, lakes, and shorelines.

In Washington, noxious weeds are separated into three categories:

* Class A noxious weeds are unrecorded in the state or are limited in distribution and require eradication.
* Class B noxious weeds are designated for control in state regions where they are not yet widespread.
* Class C noxious weeds are either already widespread in Washington or are of special interest to the agricultural industry. Each county determines the level of control required.

WHO SHOULD USE THIS APP?

This app is specific to conditions in the state of Washington. Plant information may be of interest to users outside of Washington, but the noxious weed classifications and remedies may not be relevant.

* Landowners - In Washington state, it the responsibility of landowners – both public and private – to control certain noxious weeds. This app helps landowners to identify noxious weeds and learn about Washington’s three classifications of noxious weeds. Contact your local county noxious weed control board to learn about specific control requirements in your county.
