I have been concerned about the proliferation of fake news and the general lack of revenue for traditional print journalism. Journalism is a powerful bolster against authoritarian regimes and unaccountable democratic government. However, it relies on traffic and on the ad revenue that generates to pay the bills. This app is meant to solve two problems: it gives a large number of news sources for consumers while also generating ad revenue for news media.

Currently, the app consists of rss feeds. I am seeking better integration, but this is a good stopgap measure until I can develop something more complex and prettier. It is designed to favor news about the United States, but has a strong showing of African, Southeast Asian and European news sources. The news sources are currently all in English.

I intend on researching and replacing some of the news sources. I have avoided government news agencies due to their implicit bias towards government spin. I have also avoided most major US news sources. I may add these at some point in the near future, but my priority was securing many international streams in case of media coercion. I admit that I acted out of ignorance in a few of my selections, and if there are other objective news sources I should consider please leave them in the ratings.
