PBS NEWSHOUR - Official for Android
Needs a serious update and bug fix. I would love to use this app, as my phone is my main source of news. Many articles come up in microscopic print & cannot stretch to expand font. I get notifications to watch a live vid and whrn i click the notif it brings me to whatever page i was on last in the app. So then I press the menu choice Live Video only brings up a page that says No Data Available. PLEASE REWRITE THIS WHOLE APP?
Lots of insightful stories and video. App stopped working a couple of weeks ago, needed an install / reinstall as it wouldn't refresh with new stories and video. Have to put up with commercials, but I guess they have to make a buck.
App developed for portrait orientation. I use my tablet in landscape, with a screen lock app it only shows a portion of the story you are interested in. Why can't app function normally in landscape orientation? Sorry but I guess I will uninstall.
The PBS Newshour team is a top'notch creator of news-related content. From quality reporting to laudible visual production, all while strategically avoiding harmful/distracting advertising practices via the help of viewer support and generous sponsors, they've got you covered. This app however, like its YouTube channel counterpart, lacks a place for commentary and dialouge from its viewers. Said dialogue continues to only be available on their website. Thus this app falls a tad short of its full potential.
When set as a default, app hijacks all links to PBS. For instance, clicking a PBS schedule link from Google opens the Newshour app, blocking me from the schedule I sought initially. Uninstalling.
App needs a single-tap selection for the hard-to-find "PBS NewsHour full episode [date]". In other words, a far easier way than currently to find that option.
Got caught video editing Jill Stein's answer mid sentence. Partisan hacks!
Every night I see nothing but blacks talking about how American and the white man holds them down. It's a bunch of racist untrue BS.
PBS is the truest of all the new. No adds . Is not influenced by big money nor by politicians. Works for the Citizens of the USA.
Terrible! Refuses to play nice with high resolution screens. Ads for programming paid for by the American people? SHAME ON YOU!
The text is too small. It only uses half the with of the display on my phone and there appears to be no way to make it larger. Too bad.
Get only a message that says "Seems like there is no data" when you click on headlines or the rundown.
Nice way to start the day with relevant news from a reliable source.
All the titles are incomplete! What are we suppose to do? Open every article just to read the title?!? Why do they play this game!!!
I listen every day,best news,unbiased, honest.
Works well for me. Always a fan. Would like see the option to cast video.
Informed PBS twice no action and uninstalled ..Issue-----Installed and reinstalled twice but doesn't open and load
These reliable, honest, unbiased, news & analysis folks totally ROCK: Judy Woodruff, David Brooks, Mark Shields.THANK YOU for your work.
Excellent app. Very concise Easy to use, perfect.
Text too small and there's no way to adjust it. No way to zoom the article display.
Without Shields & Brooks, this app is not worth the RAM it uses. Also, I don't want an audible alarm with news alert notifications. Uninstalling...
Love it. Real reporters, doing the news.
Love lack of spin.
Text is too small, and there's no way to adjust it.
Love this app.
Still giving unfiltered information.
Reliable news
Wish it had a dark theme
This is. the. fair and balanced. report.

PBS apps, Online PBS Video, & Roku have been converted to tacky, empty graphics. Let me see &/or hear the News Hour broadcast, please. I successfully accessed only a single video article . No News "Hour" available. I can read other news apps. I can continue to rely on the NY Times, Sky News, The BBC. But The PBS NewsHour has a unique broadcast video format. What an onerous, uber written, & ineffectual waste of donor $$. Thought I'd rate it before trashing it.
Just downloaded, 22 August 16, I'll evaluate and advise of my findings of this App. Excellent source of unbiased information without censorship. 5 star broadcasting! This app works for me! Updated: 17 September 16
Seems to have lots of bugs with my Android. No way to zoom out and see entire articles and "settings" button does not work at all. As others have said, articles don't rotate with phone either.
Essentially same above complaint of many other reviews of this app. Five (5) star news, but one (1) star app. I will uninstall if not fixed in April. The creators of this app. apparently pushed it out prematurely/ incomplete/ "1/2 baked". My phone is SG3. Well now it's mid May. Still not fixed. Bye bye to this piece of crap app. Now subscribed to PBS News Hour on You Tube.
Needs a serious update and bug fix. I would love to use this app, as my phone is my main source of news. Many articles come up in microscopic print & cannot stretch to expand font. App is missing a menu so on Galaxy s6 we have the little floating 3-dot bubble, but both short and long press on the bubble do nothing at all. Good luck rewriting this, I will watch for a major upgrade before reinstalling
Love the Newshour, this app not so much. Far too heavy @ 40MB (not the 25MB claimed). UI isnt very slick. Wont play/stay in landscape. Should have at least a couple days archived....and the option to play the full hour, not just segments. Chromecast? I will stick with PBS app which includes virtually the entire PBS catalogue (Incl Newshour) and is only 35M, better UI and supports Chromecast

Great resource for great news. I love that it is just the news without the social commentary (still available on website). I love the Newshour so much that I put up with the app's minor annoyances. --A small number of random articles have fixed text too small to read. (At the end of the article click the title link to open it in a browser.) --App only works in portrait. Please add landscape ability. --On the Headline tab, text beside each article's image does not include the full title. (Read articles through the Facebook option in this app's menu instead.) --The "I need support" link creates an email with no recipient.
