La preghiera, dice papa Francesco, è una «lotta con Dio che ci cambia il cuore». Meglio, dunque, se in questa battaglia non si è soli.

Perchè si prega ?

A questa risposta potremmo rispondere semplicemente: “perchè Gesù ha pregato, perchè Gesù stesso ci ha detto di pregare, e perchè Lui stesso ci ha insegnato a pregare con il Padre Nostro. (Lc. 5.16; Mt. 14.23; Mc.3.13; Lc. 6.28; Lc. 22.40...)
Ma vorremmo capire meglio.
La preghiera è un bisogno intimo dell’uomo, innato nel suo cuore. Perchè ? Semplicemente perchè Dio ci ha creato perchè entrassimo in comunione con Lui e la preghiera si inserisce in questo gioco di comunione.
La preghiera è uno strumento di amicizia, forse il più alto, il più misterioso, il più sublime. Dice Santa Teresa d’Avila: “La preghiera, altro non è che, un intimo rapporto di amicizia, un frequente trattenimento da solo a solo con Colui da cui sappiamo di essere amati”.
Nel gioco dell’ amicizia la componente essenziale è quella della comunicazione. L’amicizia è fondamentalmente un incontro interpersonale e questo non si fa senza parole, senza esplicitazione. L’ immagine di due persone che stanno l’una accanto all’altra, ma non esprimono il loro rapporto, è l’immagine di due persone che non hanno rapporto fra di loro. Quindi nell’amicizia importante è il comunicare. Siamo invitati, quindi, al dialogo con Gesù. E’ questo il senso della preghiera: si prega per accrescere la nostra amicizia con Dio.
La preghiera è il mezzo, l’amicizia con Dio è il fine.

Why please?
 
In this response we could answer simply: "because Jesus prayed, because Jesus told us to pray, and why he himself has taught us to pray the Our Father. (Lk. 5:16; Mt. 14:23; Mc.3.13; Lk. 6:28; Lk. 22:40 ...)
But we would like to understand better.
Prayer is an intimate human need, innate in his heart. Because ? Simply because God created us because we entered into communion with Him and prayer fits into this communion game.
Prayer is one of friendship tool, perhaps the highest, the most mysterious, the most sublime. Says St. Teresa of Avila: "Prayer, is nothing but an intimate relationship of friendship, a frequent detention to be alone with the one whom we know loves us."
 In the game of 'friendship the essential component is that of communication. Friendship is basically an interpersonal encounter, and this is not done without words, without explanation. L 'image of two people who are next to each other, but do not express their relationship, is the image of two people who have no relationship with each other. So important is the talk in friendship. We are encouraged, therefore, to dialogue with Jesus. 'This is the meaning of prayer: please to enhance our friendship with God.
Prayer is the means, the friendship with God is the end.
