DroidEdit Pro (code editor) for Android
Android has had an api for saving to external sd cards since lolipop. You have had years to implement the ACTION_OPEN_DOCUMENT_TREE intent to allow users to grant sd access without root. You have not dispite numerous reports of this issue and the emails I have ocasionally sent. One star untill this is fixed
Dropbox support needs to be updated. The two dots (..) for going up a folder no longer work and all folders show a modified date of 1970. Saving back to Dropbox only works once, if you want to make changes again you need to close and reopen the file.
Still the best code editor for all purposes. Overall, the most stable and complete. Works well for small files. In order to handle bigger files, you have to play with the configuration (Lowering the number of extra lines in code highlighting worked for me, and having a really good tablet as the Nvidia Shield). For the developers: A good enhancement for this app should be to be able to create and delete files from the left panel.
It's sad that the auto detect support for finding files is just not there. Also, Instead of implementing features for redundant cloud services like Dropbox, why not start to support sftp better, cause as of this moment it does not work, even with openssl.
Its great for on the go coding but I would really appreciate it more if there was a auto insert for when you typing brackets. If there is and I dont see it let me know!
Hmm... Bought the "pro" version to try out the SFTP connection, app crashes on establishing connection. Have emailed support, not holding my breath though...
Main Problem in current version is, that it does not save files correctly. It disturbes line endings. Should be fixed.
Can't open big files, have the paid version, big I mean a home page of a website saved in HTML 254kb in size
As a person who runs linux, programs, and likes to explore, I understand the need for a text editor that is simple, yet powerful. For that, I typically use VI. But this is a great text editor for a touch Interface, where you dont have a keyboard. Its well worth the few bucks it cost to upgrade to pro.
Great app - allows me to access my scripts from my Dropbox account and will automatically format code based on syntax dependent on language similar to Notepad ++
This app is buggy and the developer no response to buyer email request fix so my advise do not buy it before you regrets!!!
Save file fails on external SD card, though it can open to read, on lollipop
Not so good, sometimes can reach FTP sometimes too long...
Good editor but the developer should read thw comments, the app is missing some required features like a sidebar for tab devices
Wish there were an option to Not open last file every time app opens. Otherwise it's a good fave.
Crashed, killed my file.
App crashes when tried to preview
This app is very useful for editing and synching notes.
Awesome app. Great syntax highlighting. I wish to have that simple editor on my mac!
Now
No sd card support.
need fix
Needs RGB Convertet
I want .VUE template syntax highlighting, please
An update?!! Wew..
I've used the paid version of this app for a while now without any issues. Upon installing the last update released I am now unable to open any files from a ftp server. I can connect to the server, view the files, but once I tap one to open it the app crashes and returns to my home screen. Prior to installing the update everything worked fine. I tried clearing the app cache, restarting my device, and reinstalling the app. Nothing has worked. The app is basically useless to me until this is solved.
Can't access files on my MicroSD card. Only the internal storage works.
I bought this mainly so that I could work on the LaTeX file for my PhD thesis. I can't. The app crashes with large text files (as others have reported here, but I unfortunately didn't notice before buying). The editor is excellent with lots of features and no doubt perfect if you only work with smaller files. Not much use to me though - I had to buy QuickEdit instead.
Honestly, of all mobile editors, DROID edit is sincerely one of the best. There is no bias here either... If you're an one's and zero's freak like myself and you enjoy "Notepad ++" then here is the mobile version! if not better. well done to the developers!
I really enjoy this text editor for many reasons but the main one is that you can use FTP to another webserver at a different computer! That's a great thing they put on of course you got to have the purchased version but it's worth every penny you spend it seriously!!! The only thing it lacks is a better presentation on how it indents and shows the file but still over all awesomeness!!!! (:
GARBAGE! Worked fine for 2 minutes viewing a small css file. When I reopened the app, it tried to reload my file and BRICKED ITSELF. Killing the app doesn't help -you have to reinstall. DO NOT BUY, there is a better option, regardless of your project.
This app is dead. Hasn't been updated in over 2 years. In it's current state, it's unusable if you have syntax highlighting enabled. If they update the app and fix the highlighting, I would gladly rate it 5-stars as it has the potential to be the best editor on the app store right now, especially with an external mouse/keyboard. Most apps don't support an external mouse/keyboard very well, but it works great here. Just fix the highlighting!
I posted a negative review but deleted it after the developer contacted me with a fix for a problem I was having with this. I'm so glad they did since no other html editor comes close to being this good and I was devestated when it stopped working. Many thanks, developer!
I've tried a small handful of editing apps and this one is the best. So many customization options but not at the cost of ease of use. Google drive (and other cloud services) integration makes it even better. Like someone else said, a markdown preview feature would be an amazing addition , one I'd be happy to pay for
Everything works as one would expect, however when trying to view pages checked out from git, I get an EACCES style error because git was staged in the app's data directory, Chrome can't read it. Please either open up perms on that directory, allow us to specify a per-repository root, or drop me a line and I'll help you fix it.
Good App for reviewing a little bit of code, view log files, or in emergencies even change some lines at the phone. Even more powerful with a tablet and a keyboard. The only important thing missing is syntax highlighting for markdown. I really can't understand why they would not support it. Overall, it's worth its price.

This was my main code editor until my Note 4 was upgraded to Android 6. Then its performance degraded. There are now delays and pauses (of a few seconds - enough to make you go "aghh!") while I type or scroll. I do not see this behavior with other apps so there must be some kind of incompatibility with Android 6.
My only criticism is that it grind to almost a halt when I have code syntax highlighting enabled and I try and edit a really big file. It hardly scrolls and take forever to input characters. But with syntax highlighting disabled it's fine. Also, droidgrep, the search files app linked to simply is terrible and hasn't been maintained for a long time. It cannot list files even in the internal storage, making it useless. The developer should remove the feature to use this external app. Other than that, awesome!

Loved this up til a few weeks ago. Now it has trouble going up directories in Dropbox, making it very hard to use. I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Tab S 8.4. As a separate wish, would LOVE to be able to import my own syntax highlighting templates, is this pie in the sky?
