Engadget for Android
Layout is decent compared to the older version. The one major thing that keeps driving me crazy is the fact that it constantly jumps away from the section you're reading like it's constantly trying to load the page. Makes it infuriating to read any long articles.
A tech news app from an established tech company should drip with genius. This is mediocre. After the latest update my feed takes forever to refresh, and the articles jump all over the place as I read them.
Random scrolling STILL not fixed. It's impossible to read a long article, this has been known for months and nothing is done. Break it down.... An app that entire selling point is to let you READ high quality journalistic content is so broken that you CAN'T READ THE CONTENT! it's that basic. It'd be more sense to fire all your content creators because for the last 6m their job is effectively pointless. FIX THE SCROLLING. Otherwise your content is moot.
Broken again. Doesn't load any articles past the first dozen or so. It was fine a few days ago. This used to happen from time to time with the old app too. Does anyone at Engadget actually use the app? Hasn't someone noticed that it's broken again?
Whilst the UI and design is wonderful and 5 star worthy, the app is basically unusable when reading articles as the scroll position randomly jumps all over the place and it's been this way since the relaunch.
I had rated this 4 stars, but am now going down to 1. I really don't like the new look and feel. Let me have the old app back please! The thing I dislike most about the new app is the fact that I can't swipe from one story to the next! And also the fact that in the main list each story takes up almost a whole screen. And then there is the fact that you have more ads now too. :(
New app works many times better than the old. Edit: to get more ad clicks, the newest release open ads as you scroll if your finger touches them
only one problem. when scrolling slowly, it suddenly jumps back upwards about every 10 seconds if you leave your finger on the screen. Should probably look into that guys!
Issue 1: I can't login with account Issue 2: because of issue 1, I cat's see my saved articles on the web and vice versa Issue 3: I can't post or read any comments.
The constant jumping up and down the page whilst trying to read is making me ditch the Engadget app.
I am tired of this app causing articles to jump back to the top as i am trying to read it. This issue happens for or five times as I'm reading as, I'm sure, the app is updating articles. Very frustrating, especially since I have a brand spanki by new phone to get away from the lag.
STILL NOT FIXED: no landscape view, no comments, and TEXT STILL JUMPS AROUND WHILST ARTICLE LOADING
Frequent lock up . Scroll down and up is erratic and makes for a difficult to read. And this on a Moto!
Adds that pop up and take over your screen give you the one star rating. Will change when the adds are gone.
New layout is completely broken in both Android and iOS forms. Nothing refreshes. Fix it!
Every version of this app has failed to rotate on my tablet. Useless unless fixed.
Uninstalling because no dark background option. Bad for eyes and battery life.
Edit: 7-1-17 That's it. I'm done with this site. Reading this morning their review of One Plus's latest 'jello' phone and giving it a rating of 90 and calling it great! Tells me exactly what kind information I'm being spoon feed. Get your heads out of you know where and I'll be back. As much as I've enjoyed being up to date with everything new, I've come to an unfortunate realization that Engadget reviews are based on personal preferences. That's a shame, if you're truly looking to see if an $700 phone is right for you. Samsung can do no wrong. LG is okay. HTC is awful. Apple is too expensive (but they still would turn little kids at mere mention of Steve Jobs) We all lost when he passed tho. Microsoft is still boring, but the layman's product of choice. That will paint a broad stroke across all platform's. There was a shift a few year's back. Maybe the bosses son is head editor now or Samsung showers them with swag. One small positive is they don't make you feel like a pariah for being an Android user. So, get a second opinion when shopping for a device. You'll need it! There's a lot of site's now that will give all devices an honest review of their performance and not just a review of how it fits into their small soft lazy hands during their day. Who sits on a park bench all day scrolling anyways?? I need a review of a phone that has to make thirty calls a day, replies and sends 20 emails, 50 texts and gets handled in the toughest environments.. Then tell what's left in the battery to watch a couple videos during lunch, before it starts all over again! Think I'll give a review of 70. That's exactly what you give HTC regardless of the device. No issues with the mobile site running 7.0 Nougat.
This app loads really slowly on my Moto X Play. I almost prefer Engadget's mobile website.
The transformation from non functional and ugly app to such a beautiful one is truly amazing.
Jerky scrolling..
make landscape mode again already
I rate this app it's great
Best
I've used this for years and the app has had its ups and downs. The current iteration looks great but every minute or so, when reading an article, the text will scroll to a random point. It's impossible to read long articles. Very frustrating. Please sort it out. The most recent update (25/03/17) has not fixed the scrolling issues. It's still impossible to read long articles.
I've read Engadget articles for years now and have used different versions of the Android application during that time spam. If you would like viewing said articles outside of a Web browser, then this app is for you!
So lucky I am able to use a old version of the App that has the widget. Can't believe the dumb devs left the most important feature of the Android OS out so it's not better than ios. Stupid and shameful
****update***************04/10/17 I've been a long time reader of Engadget, and have had many issues with the app in the past. The latest reworking of the app has been a huge improvement. Ads are not intrusive, article stream is current, and it generally works. Still doesn't do videos very well. But much much better than past versions of this app.
I prefer their website, this app doesn't have as good of a layout. Secondly, when you read Engadget, keep in mind that they have a pretty strong liberal bias. They aren't neutral on political issues.
Yup, still buggy. It's pretty frustrating to be reading an article only to have it refresh and jump back to the top of the page. If it is a longer article, it will happen several times without failure. I find myself leaving the app without finishing an article I was truly interested in. If it weren't for the content, I would have left this broken app years ago. They have come a long way, but still have more to go. I'm shocked there are so many 3+ star reviews. This app has been broken on Samsung, LG and now Google phones across several versions of Android. I love the content, PLEASE fix these bugs and stop releasing new versions of the app before fully testing it!!
CRAP...no category selection no widget half of stuff about silly gaming or net neutrality or other garbage... This is how the desktop site has also 'evolved' more like devolved,.. another word,.. JUNK!
The scroll bar doesn't work, even after the update. Fix it!!!
The screen jumps whilst trying to read the articles are EXTREMELY annoying...
Finally fixed the comparison tables. Am so pleased! Great news outlet, good app
Won't load
Missing dark theme
Where is the widget?????????????????????
Although a much cleaner interface, the forced ads are quite bothersome. The ads are so sensitive, just scrolling near them activates them it seems. I used to love engadget as a tech news source, but lately the political opinions seem to be more prevalent. I may have to try elsewhere if it continues.
The news on the app is great. I get a lot of updates and can research onward from a lot of the articles using links provided. However the app itself is hard to read. My screen will continuously jump to different parts of articles while reading without input and even after everything has loaded. It will continue doing so without notice. This makes reading long articles impractical. I am running a galaxy S6.

Used to work good but now it dosent load that many articles anymore. A couple updates ago it started and now I can go back as far as 7 hours ago. Another irritation is the ads, I am trying to scroll down and the ads go full screen just because I am scrolling. Super irritating
