8ware-Heli for Android
First off: this device is great. The hardware is effectively abandonware at the moment, which is a shame. The market space is now being taken over by better-known names at much higher prices. That said, the unpopularity of this device allowed me to get it at a great price. I had been challenged by my SO to get another DVD player for the car so that all three kids could watch some movies during a long car trip. I didn't like the idea of getting another unit, having to load up another USB stick, etc. etc. and came across this unit instead. I'm back from that trip - success! Each of my kids was able to watch movies on their tablets. That, plus the price-point is enough to get 5 stars. Now, some things to be aware of: - You'll be attaching to a new wifi SSID. No wifi surfing while you are using this. But you are using it in the car, right? So this should be a non-issue. - Test the media that you want to serve on your tablets. Your media center at home plays it, but can each tablet? Don't find out that the movie your kid chose doesn't play, or only plays with the director's audio track while you are on the road.
Just a couple of things that would make it better. Being able to do a straight file transfer, regardless of file type. At the moment if you can't stream it you can't download it. Being able to use the expanded storage on my device. For example, I have 16Gb of storage on my device but I have a 64Gb sd card in it and I can't more file to the sd card.
Works great
