About Personalized SMS Sounds
Set up custom SMS notifications for people in your contact list so you can tell who is texting you without looking at your phone. You can also set Announce to read the name of the contact and read the message coming in using the Android Text To Speech (TTS) features. Having custom notifications and your contacts and messages spoken out loud means you never have to pick up your phone.
Sound Notifications
Assign a notification sound to any phone number from your contact list. You also set a default sound that you hear when a message comes in from someone not in your list. If you set the default sound to silent then you will only hear the custom notification for people in your list.
Reading the name and message body
Announce can read the name of the contact sending the message and can read the message bottom through separate settings. The setting can be set to “never read”, “read only if the message is from someone in my custom notification list”, and “read all”. Because the settings are possible you can create many combinations, e.g. read all contact names aloud but only say the messages when it’s from my customization list.
Some text messages that have structured data are broken down and read according to the message source. One big example is reading Twitter messages where Twitter names are split up so they sound correctly and retweets and hash tags are identified.
Important: make sure to set your default notification to Silent so it doesn’t sound when a message arrives. The program cannot change this setting automatically.
