Extensions Manager itself claims US Dictionary & Thesaurus is out date. OpenOffice extensions page most recent US dictionaries were updated in early August 2016. Please look into it to determine if the Google Play Store Language Packs need refreshing.

download the installer from the play store, open it from play store or your app drawer then tap "install" and let it do its thing. next time you open andropenoffice you should be able to select & use the language
