Litany to St. Prophet Elijah

Prophet Elijah was the most powerful of God's prophets in the Old Testament.

Elijah the prophet served God between 860BC-852BC and did 16 truly amazing miracles - like resurrecting son of Zarephath's widow.

The prophet Elijah urged the people of ancient Israel to turn from sin and to
return to the true God. His message is just as important for us today.

The apostle James would later speak of Elijah’s faith saying, “Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and he prayed earnestly that it would not rain; and it did not rain on the land for three years and six months. And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth produced its fruit” (James 5:17-18).

O glorious prophet Elijah, ever a mirror of sanctity and justice, while living
in this valley of tears, obtain for us of God the grace to be your followers on
earth, that we may one day be partakers with you in the everlasting glory in
heaven. Teacher of God's people and the defender of their Faith, disperse, we
entreat you, the darkness of our intellect, obscured by our evil passions, and
preserve in our hearts the Faith which is kept living by works of charity. Taken
into heaven in a chariot of fire, and who shall be the precursor of Christ, when
He shall come in the splendor of his infinite majesty to judge the living and
the dead, pray for us, that loving Him and sincerely serving Him on earth, we
may have the great happiness of loving Him for all eternity in the blessed
kingdom of heaven.
