******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF CHRISTIAN ROCK MUSIC ********************

Christian rock is a type of rock music that is performed by bands and individuals who create songs that focus on Christian faith and related matters. A majority of bands that play Christian rock have links with Christian media outlets, music labels, as well as festivals.

The Crusaders’ album, “Make a Joyful Noise with Drums and Guitars” (released in November 1966), was deemed as one of the first Christian rock album releases or first Christian rock record of all time. Mind Garage’s 1967 “Electric Liturgy” album have been recorded in RCA’s studio “Nashville Sound.” On 1969, the grandfather of Christian rock music, Larry Norman, released “Upon His Rock” which was believed to be first “Jesus rock album” released commercially. Randy Stonehill released his first album which Larry Norman produced in 1971, “Born Twice”.

Christian rock enjoyed a growing popularity since then, and roared in the 1990s and the subsequent decade spearheaded by bands like Audio Adrenaline, Jars of Clay, RED, Fireflight, Kutless, Disciple, Relient K, Decyfer Down, Skillet, Petra, Thousand Foot Krutch, Servant, Third Day, Brazil’s Oficina G3, Canada’s The Kry and UK’s Delirious?.
