******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF TANGO MUSIC ********************
Tango music is a music style in 4/4 or 2/4 time which started among European immigrant populations of Uruguay and Argentina (collectively called the "Rioplatenses"). Tango is commonly played on a solo guitar, guitar duo, or a group known as the orquesta típica which is comprised of at least two violins, flute, double bass, piano and at least two bandoneóns, and at certain times joined by guitars as well as a clarinet. Tango may include a vocalist or be purely instrumental.
Carlos Gardel is the perpetual symbol and superstar of Tango who brought the music genre to the United States and became one of the precursors of the so-called Golden Age of tango which has run from 1935 to 1952. Some of the influential orchestras include the orchestras of Juan d'Arienzo, Osvaldo Pugliese, Carlos di Sarli, Aníbal Troilo, and Francisco Canaro. D’Arienzo was hailed as the “King of the Beat” for his recordings which had a prevalence of driving, insistent rhythms. Other notable composers and musicians include Jorge Chaminé, Olivier Manoury, al Tango, Martha Argerich, Yo-Yo Mal Daniel Barenboim, Plácido Domingo, Gidon Kremer, Marcelo Alvarez, Isaac Albéniz, Erik Satie, Igor Stravinsky, John Cage, John Harbison, Milton Babbitt, Thomas Adès, and Matthew King.
