******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF LATIN DANCE MUSIC ********************
Latin American music is a wide ranging music genre that encircles styles and rhythms which are related to and have developed from Latin America, as well as its impact throughout the United States and many European countries including Portugal and Spain. Its stylistic origins come from a variety, including classical music, indigenous American influence, and from countries like Portugal, Spain, France, and Africa.
Experts have elucidated Latin music as a fusion of four key elements: music style, cultural background of the artist, geography, and language. Music styles include those created from Latin countries, such as Bachata, Banda, Bolero, Bossa nova, Compas, Cuarteto, Cumbia, Duranguense, Guaracha, Merengue, Música popular Brasileira, Norteño, Nueva canción, Pagode, Plena, Ranchera, Salsa, Samba, Son, Tango music, Tejano, Twoubadou, Vallenatomerengue. Other music styles came from a more popular genre like Latin pop, jazz, rock, and reggaeton.
Geographically, Latin American music is attributed to the Portuguese and Spanish-speaking zones in Latin America (colonized by Spain and Portugal back in the 16th century), as well as Francophone territories and countries within Latin America. As a music genre, "Latin American music" refers to Portuguese or Spanish-language music genres.
