******************** THE ORIGIN & HISTORY OF INDUSTRIAL MUSIC ********************
Industrial music is an experimental music style dubbed by Allmusic as the “most abrasive and aggressive fusion of rock and electronic music" which was "initially a blend of avant-garde electronics experiments (tape music, musique concrete, noise, synthesizers, sequencers, etc.) and punk provocation.”
The term “Industrial music” was formed sometime in the middle of the 1970s from the slogan “industrial music for industrial people” and the creation of the record label Industrial Records. Being an experimental type of music, Industrial music involved the use of instruments such as modified electronics, sampler, sequencer, drum machine, synthesizer, found objects, tape loops, and even typical instruments like guitars, drums, bass guitar and keyboard.
Some of the influential bands of this genre include SPK, Boyd Rice, Z’EV, Gristle, and Cabaret Voltaire. Influence came from a variety of bands and people, notably, experimental rock artists like Frank Zappa and The Velvet Underground, German electronic music band Kraftwerk, psychedelic rock figure Jimi Hendrix, writer William S. Burroughs, composer John Cage, and even philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche are notably mentioned as influences as well
