Tuwharetoa FM for Android
In 1990 a committee headed by Rangiiria Headley was formed to establish our own local station in Turangi. For this to become a reality theTuwharetoa Māori Trustboard was given the huge task of being kaitiaki (License holder) for the frequencies which they still oversee.
Once the license and a NZ-On-Air setup grant was in place, Tuwharetoa FM's first official broadcast was in Feb 1991 at the old Waiariki Polytech outpost on Dekker Drive. In Jan 1993 we moved to the eastern part of the Turangi Town Mall and finally relocated to our current premises mid-town in October 1998.
Another milestone took place when the Tuwharetoa District Te Kohanga Reo Unit became the broadcaster for the station until the inception of the current Tuwharetoa FM Charitable Trust - which consists of five Iwi representatives from the region.
