AWS re:Invent 2016 Event App for Android
Idea is good. Extra star for the "game" which is great for networking. Useful for finding name of room for class you registered for. Omg what a battery hog though, it can bring my phone down to 0 just running in the background within two hours. I haven't had constant crashes like the others but definitely have bumped into it quite a handful of times.
Crashes constantly. Cancels your booked session if you try to register for a different session that happens to be full (don't find out until it's too late). Also map functionality is hard to read, and directions to event doesn't work. Just an aggravating application to use at a massively crowded conference.
It looks like the intention was that when users click on a location it is shown in the map, but I just see a blank screen. This wasnt surprising, because the whole app feels like it was thrown together carelessly. Going directly to the map is similarly useless. The app hasn't crashed yet, which is a huge improvement over last year, but it is not very useful. I just want to see where my sessions are, what is coming up, how to get there, and what is near me. Maybe next year. Update: it has started crashing.
Just as others are reporting, sign into the web site works fine with a secure, longer password containing special characters. However, sign into the app does not work with longer passwords or passwords containing non-alphanumeric characters. The e-mail support link opens an empty compose message dialog in all e-mail apps (Gmail, TouchDown, AirWatch Inbox, etc.).
1. App doesn't support complex passwords even though website does 2. There is no way to know if a session is full unless you register for it 3. If you register for a full session and had a conflict, your original session is lost, forcing you to reschedule. 4. Map requires input location to obtain directions instead of using GPS 5. Sometimes clicking on a session would take you to the details about the speaker instead of the session. 6. No support for finding the sessions in a series 7. Crashed frequently
This (cr)app crashes and restarts literally every couple of minutes whilst navigating My Schedule or Agenda. When re:Invent was a little convention of a few thousand people, that might be cute. But now AWS is HUGE, and re:Invent is HUGE, and a rather necessary app that's launched clearly broken and under-tested is simply not good enough. It stinks - but we have no alternative, short of using the re:Invent scheduling website (supplied by the same events customer) that's almost as frustrating.
I click the star to save a session and I get a pop-up that says "Session is full." but I cannot save the session to a wait list to remind me I need to stand in a queue for the wait list. The map is awful: the gestures used to scale the map are hyper sensitive and its easy to get lost. Oh, and it crashes on a Nexus 6p almost every use. Garbage.
Constantly crashes on Nexus like others have mentioned. The map feature is close to useless. Couldn't it just connect to filigree maps which has pretty detailed inside maps for the area.
Unregisters me from a session only to tell me that the session I want is full -- Now I'm in neither. No way to mark sessions as interesting without registering -- I might want to check out slides/video later. Frequent crashes.
I can not login. Pressing the email support button takes me to a blank gmail compose window. Not useful. Pretty crappy app for a company trying to showcase such great mobile support.
Clicking talk descriptions causes the app to crash. Very frustrating. Sends notifications for talks in the past I wasn't signed up for. Notice how all the 4 and 5 stars are last year's version. Definite backslide for 2016
Changed my password to 8 chars and still can't login. Want to have my schedule viewable from the phone. Very average app
I'm unable to sign in as many others have reported. A simple unit test should've caught this one. Oh the irony...
Cannot log in, and email support button doesn't actually function either. Other reviews seem to say it's a maximum password length issue, but I'm not changing my password to log into the app.
Terrible Chinese localization like last year. The only way to get around it is to configure my mobile phone to English. Login failed as well.
Failing to login. I guess as others have reported special characters not allowed in the password which works fine with the website login. No easy way to change the password as well.
On Nexus 5. App crashes constantly. When going through the agenda to select the sessions it won't tell you which sessions are already full, so I have to click one by one and wait until it says "session full" or the app crashing. Extremely frustrating.
When you guys push an update that doesn't constantly crash AND let's me login with credentials I just used on the webapp let me know
Constantly crashed during conference on s5. Organization of favorites was poorly organized. The most frequently needed features needed digging to get to.
Doesn't accept the credentials I have set up for reinvent. No option in the app to get help with that. The email support link on the login page opens a blank email addressed to nobody.
Can't log into the app. Have changed my PW multiple times and still no joy. The "email support" link opens a blank email message. Better off with a paper brochure.
My password was 32 characters and I could login to the website just fine. I had to change my password to 8 characters for the app to actually let me log in. The detailed maps suck and selecting a floor doesn't do anything.
Can't sign in, directions are horrible and the layout is really inefficient. Who designed this? Did you even QA it?
I can't even log in, as many have experienced. That is it's primary function to work properly with scheduling.
I cannot locate my next breakout because my schedule items all crash, aparently because the maps crash.
This app has crashed multiple times and has problems saving state (ie. profile photo)
I can't login to the app. Read the comments and changed my password to 8 characters. Still doesn't work. Amazon, where is your QA process?
Good idea but unfortunately the app crashes almost on every use.
This is from AWS, correct? Am I wrong to have expected more from AWS? Very frustrating.
Schedule is OK, but can't see favorites and location info only seems to come up for confirmed sessions.
Idea was good. But its far from being named and ready for the conference.
They have really made something special and it's nice to see the progression over the past 4 years
keeps crashing and slow was expecting more from AWS, doesn't show you if a session is full either.
Seriously, guys, it is 2016, password can be longer than 8 characters.
Crashes whenever I select an agenda item so see where its being hosted.
After 5 years, app still shows no signs of design, security, stability, performance or QA. Would be an "F" project for an intro programming course.
Crashed often. Especially when trying to swap out sessions in personal schedule.
App crashes or completely locks up my device whenever it looses network access.
I can log in on desktop but doesn't work on this app

App crashes frequently and annoyingly. Push notifications don't do anything when tapped. No indication if a session is full before you are made to drop existing registrations to attempt to register for the new session, leaving you registered to neither session if the new one is full (and someone else will take your slot before you can find it again). Map is unstable and almost useless - individual rooms are not shown until you are zoomed in so far you can only see one room. Attempting to perform actions in the app frequently just times out or errors. Surveys are unreadably small and the resizing is glitchy. This is a perfect example of what not to do in a conference app. I see people photographing the dashboards showing what events are on because this provides a more usable experience than this app.
