Instructions
Note: Felting needles are extremely sharp; use caution at all
times. The higher the needle number, the finer the needle and
the smaller the hole left in project.
1. Wax serrated knife with candle stub or paraffin. Cut foam
eggs in half lengthwise. Cut thin slice from bottom of foam
ball so it rests flat. Cut 4"-thick slice from top of ball;
set aside slice for future project. Using metal spoon, hollow
out ball to depth of 1-1/2".
2. Loosely cover hollow ball with natural roving. Following
manufacturer's instructions, begin needlefelting roving to
foam. Add more roving as needed for smooth, solid look.
3. Pull thin strands of black roving and needlefelt to ball on
diagonal around entire shape; place nine strands pointing in
one direction and nine in the opposite direction.
4. Trace flower pattern onto center of cardstock square and
carefully cut out flower, creating a stencil. Pin flower
stencil to ball, using photo as a guide.
5. Pull small pieces of pink roving and needlefelt inside
stencil to create flower, adding more as needed to create
fluffy flower. Needlefelt yellow flower in same way.
Needlefelt small balls of black roving to center of each flower.
6. Repeat Step 2 to cover five half-eggs with roving, each a
different color. Place eggs on scrap foam while felting to
protect fingers; turn frequently to prevent fiber from
sticking to scrap foam.
7. Roll small balls of black roving for polka dots on pink
egg; needlefelt in place. Repeat for each egg, adding dots as
follows: aqua dots on orange egg; orange dots on aqua egg,
with smaller black dots in centers; yellow dots on blue egg;
green dots on purple egg, with smaller yellow dots here and there.
8. Glue excelsior into top of basket using glue gun. Use craft
glue to glue a toothpick halfway into bottom of each egg.
Apply glue to toothpick ends and push into basket opening.
