Mekke döneminde nâzil olmuştur. 77 âyettir. 68-70. âyetlerin Medine döneminde indiği rivayet edilir. İsmini birinci âyette geçen aynı kelimeden almıştır. Furkân, “hakkı batıldan ayıran” demektir ve aynı zamanda Kur’an’ın bir adıdır.
