Initially the JVC was named as SAIL Power Supply Company (Pvt.) Ltd. (SPSCL).
Further in March,2002 the management of CPP-II, Bhilai Steel Plant (2X30 MW + 1X14 MW BPTG) was taken over by NTPC from SAIL and a new JVC: BESCL i.e,Bhilai Electric Supply Company (Pvt.) Ltd. was formed.
On 04 June,2002 name of SPSCL was changed to NSPCL i.e. NTPC-SAIL Power Company (Pvt.) Ltd.
On 11 September,2006 merging of BESCL with NSPCL took place with all its properties, licenses, permissions, debt, liabilities etc resting on NSPCL.
