Church of the Holy Sepulcher

In the heart of the ancient walled city of Jerusalem stands the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, which is the most venerated religious site in all of Christendom. The church was originally built in the early 4th century by Saint Helena, the Christian mother of The Roman emperor, Constantine the First. Through its long and troubled history the church has suffered many setbacks, destructions and renovations but has maintained its importance throughout these as the site of the crucifixion, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The many chapels of the church commemorate the events of Jesus' last hours on earth and contain within them the last five Stations of the Cross as the terminus of the Via Dolorosa. Millions of pilgrims and visitors frequent the site from sunup to sundown every day, all year round, as it is a source of inspiration, awe, curiosity and historical interest for believers and non-believers alike.
