ACM Digital Library for Android
App just crashes when trying to read articles. So, kind of useless now.
This app used to be solid as a rock, but recently it has started crashing when opening some articles. Sometimes when crashing it also corrupts the downloaded article list, making it inaccessible.
Update: Changing review to 5 stars because I did a hard-reset and problem went away. Might simply be a consequence of temporarily rolling back updates, but since I can't reproduce the problem anymore to provide info to the developers for diagnosis (or verification of a fix), I'm happy to change my review until the problem (if ever) reemerges. While using Google Pixel G, attempting to open any journal, etc. (e.g. Communications of ACM) crashes the app. I reinstalled the app, but that didn't help. There is a warning on startup that says "ACM Digital Library does not support the current Display size setting and may behave unexpectedly," but it doesn't provide steps for mitigation. I will happily update rating if/when fixed.
Deleting multiple articles from a binder has caused wrong articles to be deleted! If delete single article from a binder, exit binder and return to it, article often reappears (invalid cache?) Sync with main website, as seen in desktop browser, takes many minutes. When scrolling through long conference proceedings, only half the screen is used, other half contains useless info. No preview of author names. Moving articles to new binder only possible one-by-one. Android 4.1.2, Galaxy Note 2.
great app to get all things ACM
I'll never ever be bored again! The whole song and dance I had to do before to read good papers is gone. This is the best ACM related app so far. It looks fresh and fits in with the JellyBean style.
The app now works on Nexus 4 v.4.4.4 but still crashing on Nexus 7 v5.0.2 kernel 3.4.0-g154bef4
OnePlus One, crashes every time I try to read something
The app offers the potential to select and view ACMs broad range of publications. However, upon selecting a publication to view, the app crashes. I'm using an ASUS TF701t tablet. Note: a later version does work on my LG G3 phone. I would prefer viewing on a tablet with a larger screen size. Update: downloaded 08 Mar 16 update...same crash issue
Oct 2015. Samsung Galaxy Tab S with Android 5.0.2. Loads ok but crashes each time I select a publication. Not impressed since I have a life membership in ACM. Feb 2016 still no change.
Worth less than what you pay for it, not unlike the Digital Library itself. The binder function appears to be completely broken. Once articles are put in a binder through the app, that action does not synchronize with binders on the traditionally-accessible website. Or if they do, God only knows how long it takes-- it should be near instantaneous with a browser refresh. If there is some action by which one can force a synchronization, it is exquisitely well hidden in the minimalist lack-of-interface. There is no ability to add more than one object at a time to binders-- a feature which is, infuriatingly, absent in the traditional version as well. This makes this app, like the base website, basically useful for managing large literature searches or comprehensive reviews. One might easily lose a day or more in repetitive points and clicks to move everything into the binders after a search. This is just embarrassing for the ACM. And there is no facility to export the binder objects into a more convenient format, such as BibTex. This would not be devastating if the binders would ever synchronize to the main account, but they show no evidence of ever doing so.
Latest version crashes on open, nexus 6, marshmallow. Opened fine before update
Unable to use this app, after I created a Web login through ACM website and login through this, it crashes immediately, device is Sony Xperia Ultra Z, Android 5.0.2
I have the app installed on two devices, a Nexus 4 running Lollipop and a Samsung Galaxy Tab S with 4.4.2. When I try to open a journal on either device, the app usually crashes. If it does not crash, or reports "No content available."
Access to all ACM publications in one app. Crashes resolved.
Good app
The App is great. It gives a nice mobile UI that is easy to navigate, find and download ACM publications (journals, magazines, newsletters, proceedings etc.). I have one request for ACM; it would be absolutely amazing if the articles could be downloaded in some easy to read format for the phone (something like an ebook) instead of PDF/HTML. The PDF format is hard to read on a phone.
More slicker than the website, ideal for when you are away from a desktop.
The app now works on Nexus 4 v.4.4.4 but still crashing on Nexus 7 v5.0.2 kernel 3.4.0-g154bef4
Crashes every time I try to open an article. It didn't happen previously. I guess it because of the android upgrade.
Works really well since the last update! Provides great overview and is very easy to use.
It loads alright and let's me browse journals etc, but crashes every time I try to load any articles, journals, etc. Update: it now functions as expected. Thanks!

Why do you need to access calendar?

Crashes on sign in (Lollipop)
seems fine on KitKat, crashes on launch on Lollipop.
Just crashes when I try to open it

Currently on Nougat 7.1.1/Pixel. Still crashing trying to open anything. Its almost like there is zero testing done for this. Maybe the ACM should open their APIs and allow a 3rd party to play.
