Talk - Text to Voice for Android
This is a great app for text to voice reading of emails, websites and other text. It is a very simple way to quickly read along while the text is read aloud. Highly recommended for anyone with an Android!
One change would bring this to 5* - when importing a page include any lists. Currently the lists are dropped. This is frustrating, I can paste a list in, but if you bring in a page it just drops them. :-(
use it all the time
Use it all the time for writing - it is the best way to find typos by far. The new look and features are great especially having separate notes. Highly recommended!!! Wish list would be: Option to not show timeline and play button when keypad is open. Link to cloud storage. Improved cursor placement when entering edit mode.
Please, give us back the old version, that was a far better option for those that use this to communicate all day of every day.... With the current version, you have to press an extra button before you can start typing, and you have the "play" button at the bottom, taking up valuable text box space, when it should be in the tool bar at the top instead.... Please, fix these two things, or give us the old version so we can use that instead. When I say something, I need to get to the text box asap.
used it on all my devices! no problems at all ... I really find the background reading awsome, as I am able to make full website URLs play as background TTS all while following along and highlighting / marking up the page that is being played aloud to myself ... .. . only then to be saved systematically for personal a / o research papers I may be gathering info about. A system of creating folders for your compiled texts and your exported .wav files can then be sent via sharing to your own Inbox!! Great!
I use the paid/premium version. The user interface, feel, and appearance and all the ongoing updates make this the best to be had . . . Thank you!
Select and it will read it. I like it. Easy on the eyes! You can do other things while listening! :-)
one of the must have app. with some smart logic to read the correct content from webpage and then it deserve 5 stars
Doesn't work on Note 7
Just what I needed
Since the last update, the performance and stability has dropped greatly. Not sure if that's related, but I'm using it with big notes of several thousand words at a time (chapters in a book).
I use the paid/premium version and the most recent update they've included the ability to store notes within the app. They've also upgraded the user interface and look . . . all great updates . . . Thank you!
This is an app I have to install in Android. It fills in with the accessibility features Android is missing. It also turns any webpage or snippet into a podcast.
I think this is the best text to voice app out for Android it is worth the price
Version 2 was a great update!
i need the old version back
Good update
Love it...
I can no longer pick which TTS engine that I want to use.. No matter what I pick, it's something else than the ones I want to use.. It seems the app comes with its own voices and languages that it forces upon me despite allowing me to go and pick preferred engine, which has zero effect.
But how about a black theme?
Awesome app!
I used the free version, then bought the paid version, hoping to listen to text I converted to .wav files. TALK advertises that it will do this. It wont. What a rip off, piece of crap.
Great app.please update regular????
It would be great if it is possible to add to options something like PASTE. Very often I use to read from clipboard. So I copy then paste the text here so one button on the taskbar make the process even more easy. Thanks!
I need to use an text to speech app to communicate because I can't talk due to a disability. I've tried more than 15 text to speech apps on the Play Store, and this is by far the best for those that need to use a TTS app to communicate. That's because this app has a decent amount of customization options in the settings, and because it has the best interface (large text box with small buttons), which is great when I want to show other people what I've typed instead of pressing speak.
It quite simply works. Love it.
I used the free version of this app for a couple of months before purchasing it. I found it to be very stable, easy to use and it has just the right features for my needs. I have dyslexia and this app helps me to read text that would normally take me quite awhile to get through. Thanks itsjoui.
For the most part, I am able to get news articles read to me via digital voice by sharing to Pocket (since Pocket has a built-in TTS feature). However, there are times when certain news articles (and other things) do not parse into the Pocket app properly, in which case start from the source in your phone browser and then share to Talk app and voila, you are good to go! Very glad to have found the "Plan B" when I need it, especially because by the end of the day my eyes are tired and I don't feel like reading.

When I copy over large amounts of text to be converted to audio it just shows that it is processing . It never actually converts it to audio. If I could do this I would be a happy camper.
Nice
My previously reported errors went away with 4.4.3, so I'm upping my rating back up to a five.
I just had surgery on my vocal chords and I'm not allowed to talk, this is making my life a lot easier! The phone speaks what you type I'm the familiar Google Now voice, and you can control pitch and speed! The best part though is making the text bigger so you can just show somebody for them to read it. I use it so much, that I decided to go with the paid version to remove the ad bar for more room in the text box

This app works relatively well, but these days it is fairly fragile. It almost always becomes unresponsive and dies in the middle of playback if you switch to another app.

Please, bring back the old version from last summer, that's a better option for those that need a text to speech app to communicate because of a disability. This newer version isn't a good option for two big reasons. First, we need to be able to get to the text box right away, because when you have to click extra buttons every time, that slows you down and when you're talking to someone, every second matters. Secondly, we need to have a text box that's a large as possible. Those who can't talk aren't always in situations where they can press speak, they fairly often need to have the other person read the screen. In this situations, it's nice to have the text box be as big as possible. The last version had a much larger text box since there were fewer extra stuff shown on the screen. I had been using this app to communicate up until summer but since then I haven't used this app due to these two big issues. Since then I've been using "Type and Speak." Please at least consider adding a 3rd version to the Play Store that's the older version. Thanks.
