About Oscar De La Hoya (Golden Boy)
This app features one of Boxing's most celebrated fighters, Oscar De La Hoya (The Golden Boy). De La Hoya won a gold medal at the Barcelona Olympic Games at the 1992 Olympics at the age of 17. He was the youngest U.S. boxer at that year's Goodwill Games to win a gold medal. Oscar was named “Fighter of the Year" in 1995 and Ring Magazine's top-rated Pound for Pound fighter in the world in 1997 & 1998. De La Hoya had an impressive and lucrative career well beyond many of his counterparts in the sport. De La Hoya defeated 17 world champions and won ten world titles in six different weight classes (junior lightweight champion, lightweight, junior welterweight champion, welterweight, super welterweight, and middleweight). At the age of 28, he was the youngest boxer ever to have won five world titles. Outside of the ring, De La Hoya released an album in 2000 on the EMI/Latin label. Entitled Oscar, the album topped Latin dance charts and a single 'Ven a Mi,' was nominated for a Grammy Award. This app showcases the talents of Oscar De La Hoya (the Golden Boy) who retired from boxing on April 14, 2009.
